Captain Mark Dunleavy
#1

Mark was an icon of our airline and indeed our nation. He was one of the kindest most humble people I ever had the pleasure to meet. He was taken far too young and is a great loss as a friend and co worker.
Mark grew up in a military family, his father was a decorated naval aviator and flag officer. It's fair to say that flying was in his blood, as he grew up on-base watching the aircraft soar. Mark began his career as a graduate of the US Naval Academy, serving on fleet deployments as an F/A-18 pilot, and later a graduate of the acclaimed Top Gun.
His career would soar even higher when Mark was selected to join the elite US Navy Blue Angels flight demonstration team. He flew in the famous Blue Angels diamond formation, flying in both the wing and slot aircraft for over two seasons between 1997 and 1999.
Mark Dunleavy left a mark on so many of us through his leadership, friendship and genuine kindness. His legacy is deeply ingrained in our culture; and there are few words that can express the loss his passing represents, just that he will be missed greatly but remembered fondly. Our hearts go out to Greg, his children and the entire Dunleavy family.
(This write up was internally communicated. I felt it was well written and in great respect to a man of Marks caliber. I felt it appropriate to share as a sign of respect to Mark and his family)
