can NWA be saved if merger dies?
i see that anti-trust hearings on this merger are set to start. if the merger is not consumated does anyone think that NWA will survive alone? if not, who would get what? i suspect AA would love NWA's pacific ops.

I don't think AA has the ability to buy anything right now. They might wanna worry about their domestic fleet, as well as saving themselves. |

wow, personal attacks. billions in losses this quarter (yes, you can argue accounting and how its registered) ands just getting out of ch 11 and the oldest, most fuel inefficient airplanes not in a third world country. it would be naiive to not question long term survival. i do believe AA is in much better shape than both NWA and DAL in in a position to purchase what they want when the opportunity arises.

Kinda the pot calling the kettle black, heh? I don't think any of the airlines are in good shape. And what are talking about with the fleet? AA has over 300 highly inefficient MD-80s as the staple of their domestic fleet. Far higher number than the -9s at NWA. Not the mention the 767s, A300s, and the millions lost that the -80s caused. In this difficult time for all of us you might wanna think about throwing stones in a glass house. |

NWA has $3 billion on cash right now. (maybe $2.8 million after the quarter). From what I understand, the $4 billion and $6 billion loss that NWA and DAL posted was largely accounting for loss of value to the stock, not from operating the airline. No personal attack, but just expect that whenever you propose chopping up someones airline or question its long term survival, expect to have their employees push back hard.
