I say three years tops.
So your source is higher than Ed Bastian's janitor?

Is it Richard Anderson's janitor?

Here's the problem with that comment. The usual cadre of certain DAL pilots around here have been spreading their inside information and publicly stated information that NWA was an airline going backwards on a number of fronts.

...The DC-9's were gone any minute now
...DAL hates the 787 and will convert them all to 777 orders
...blah, blah, blah...

Where was their information derived? Management - you know...guys in suits.

Now guys in suits are saying just the opposite of what the usual suspects have been spreading around here like fertilizer, and what do you say? You can't trust a suit.

Some of you guys really tickle me.

I guess what you have to understand is that most of the stuff in that meeting from Bastian is stuff we've been hearing for several years.

....We've been two weeks away from inking a deal on MD 90s for a couple years now....hasn't happenned yet.

.....We've been told that any 100 seat plane will be flown by Delta pilots....unfortunately, they just can't find a 100 seat plane they like and have been looking for a couple of years.

....We've been told how much they hate 50 seat RJs....but there are still an awful lot of 50 seat RJs flying around in Delta colors.

With that in mind, when he says the DC9 will be here for 5-6 years, I'd take it with a grain of salt. Like all good managers, Bastian knows his audience and will speak accordingly. I listen to all the various pronouncements from Flight Ops and Executives because any information is useful, but I realize that it's all subject to change and I wouldn't bank on any of it.

...last month they got a big new contract which 'saved' the DCA shuttle, this month they turned the DCA shuttle into mostly RJs.....we've been hearing announcements of an imminent Adv. Entitlement for 3 months....there's going to be a BOS base....etc, etc.

Putting too much stock in anything you hear from someone in a suit can lead to major disappointment. However, if you want some real entertainment, read the transcripts of Bastian's testimony about Delta pilots in our bankruptcy 1113 hearings
Del Dah Capt.,

NWA guys know how to take words that come out of managements mouth with a grain of salt. Let's not forget that, after declaring bankrupcy, our management team did "find" $200 million that just appeared out of nowhere. So, we don't have a problem with being unimpressed and unswayed by what the suits tell us.

But, what I, and I'm sure many of my NWA brothers find to be perplexing is that many of you DAL guys seem to want to pick and choose what you want to believe and not believe.

-How is it that you seem to not believe it when a management type says that we will keep the DC-9's around 5-7 years, but you take it as gospel that you will be getting 777's from here until eternity?

-How is it that you refuse to believe that 787's might be in the plan for the NEW Delta, but you believe it when you are told that the company will be expanding and adding routes?

-How is it that you don't believe it that the company is going to park a lot of the 50 seat RJ's, but you just know that they will be hiring next year and that your buds shoud get their logbooks updated?

So, yes it's true, that NWA pilots are used to taking statements from management with a grain of salt. But, from what I have seen so far from our dealings and discussions with our soon to be Delta brothers, I think we need interpret your statements with the whole shaker.

If it were just that, you could understand it. But when the suits that they have been using as "sources" for months now CONTRADICT them, they say that you can't trust a suit. Ever hear the term: "Don't confuse me with the facts?"

These are some of the same folks that described as "brilliant", the first 3 days of DALPA's testimony, in which they trashed NWA. Then described our lawyers' cross examination as amateurish and not having "Laid a glove on our guys." Then the arbitrators call us a merger of equals, with neither side being the savior of the other. Does that faze them at all? Nahhh.

Some people's biases are so deep, they simply can't see past their own nose.

Don't worry. This thread is going to be dead soon anyway. Whenever you catch them in their aaaahh "salt" they stop responding. Then they start another thread with their same old cherry picked rumors that "prove" that their 2007 hires were supposed to be 777 captains next year.

Salt indeed.....
