Default Delta SLI?

Hi All,

New member to the forum. Saw Hank's posting of the UPS guys graphs on our ALPA board and came over to check it out. Lurked for a couple of days and now here I am.......you poor bas&%#ds

Here is my questions for the Delta guys as I'm trying to understand where you guys THINK (since none of us have seen anything officail) how this thing will work. After all, like all airline pilots....it's all about me.

I think I represent the middle 1/3 of our list so I'm junior to the red/green stuff and above the post 9/11 junior guy food fight.

Here is my situation and I'm not throwing stones only trying to understand where you guys are coming from:

I'm a 9/95 NWA hire with a number of 3058 of 5156 or appx 59%. On a combinded NWA/Delta list looks like I'm 7123 of 12279 or 58% (according to EZOpen board (your welcome for the plug Steve). Also, I sit in one of your "dead zones" or the 92 to 96ish no hire years.

I'm retired USAF guy who doesn't need to chase $$. So, I'm a MSP 757 FO bidding 53 of 184. I can hold Hawaii, Guam and Saipan vs the deice line in Fargo in Febuary as a DC-9 Capt where I would be 110 of 166 (in MSP)

So, assuming we are going to do this and assuming the list will look more like your assumptions than ours, how does this work. Do I want to run out and be a captain or am I just as well off being a senior FO?

Intersting stuff eh? DOH doesn't give me a windfall so what does your SLI do?

Oh and to the ATL guys, I live in Dallas and won't go to ATL for the same reason I don't go to DTW. Commuting is dumb enought without doing it across time zones.

PS I also turned down a Delta interview in July of 97 (old UPAS application from 94 or 95) even though you still had a base here at the time. Guess I'm going to see how good THAT decision was!!

IF there is anything beautiful about this profession, this might be it. With 12,000 guys, you will probably have 12,000 different opinions as to what is the ideal thing to do. If you like flying what you are flying to Micronesia, I don't see any reason that would change (with a relative seniority SLI). You would stay at your relative seniority for probably a good period of time, unless they decide to double the amount of flying, and the 58% of DAL guys ahead of you ALL wanted to do that.. in which case you would lose your scheduling capabilities... but I am digressing a little. If you want to fly Europe as an FO.. you would probably hold a pretty good if not great line in JFK. I don't know about the commute from DFW though

Personally, I think some dumb-ass arbitrator is gonna get involved, and we are all gonna be unhappy. But I am hopeful that we can work it out ourselves...

tsquare,

Thanks. Your right about 12000 opinions, I get them everyday.....mostly from my wife!

So what your saying, the percentage is off the TOTAL list. I was starting to understand it was where you were at on what you were on. I may have misunderstood some guys opinion but that is what I thought was being said. Oh well, product of a public school education I guess.

The food fight on the national ALPA board between our junior guys gets hard to follow sometimes.

Thanks for your input.......and I hope we don't go to the dumb-ass arbitrator, I've had it with the red/green arguments over the years and I pledge to not bore the hell out of our post merger new hires with "how I got screwed" stories.

All the best,
Ferd

Hey I'm just a line dog too, so all of this is just my opinion. But from the way I understand it, your percentage will be of the total combined list. So... opportunities will open up for everybody. Maybe the downside is that there will be somebody slotting into the combined list from the other airline that will be seinor to you that may want to come fly what you are flying. (FYI, I am a junior 767er Captain, and without the combined list, I would hopefully come off reserve in a year or so...) So, for me personally, the potential is for a NWA pilot to slot in on top of me will be very real, which would keep me on reserve. But unless the company draws down manning on my category, my seat is safe. Not my ideal situation, but I can live with it since I won't have to go back to school to learn another aircraft. (I hate Virginia Aveune) Anyway, when the combined list is finished, everybody will remain in the seat they are in. Now... when the company decides to expand flying in that category, they will issue what we call at DAL, an "Advanced Entitlement" which is a listing of all categories, seats and bases that have openings. For example, when the newest 777s come aboard later this year, they will need some crews to fly 'em. If they open new service, they will need new crews to fly it. It would be open to all pilots, and they put in their preferences whiuch are then awarded in seniority order (of course). Sorry, I know this is pretty elementary, but you probably don't have any idea how we do things, and I have no clue how you do 'em, so forgive me if I am too simplistic. The great news for NWA guys, is that since we have expanded so much in recent years, there are tons of international opportunities. Newhires are coming straight into the right seat of the 767er. And we are still short. The rub there is that you will have to come to JFK. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and I am looking forward to working with you. (unless you are senior to me)

Heyas Ferd,

You fall into the "middle third" of the DAL SLI proposal.

This section was divvied up into a bunch of subsections, but in essence, you are probably one of the ones least harmed by this onerous proposal.

As 3058, you probably would have wound up somewhere in the low 8000s out of 12,000 pilots, or somehwere in the 68th percentile.

Could be worse. Guys in the dreaded "bottom third" did much worse. A reserve DC-9 Captain, (around 4000 or so, in the 79th percentile), would wind up near the 95th percentile. Bad ju ju.

Sounds bad, right? But don't listen to me, call your rep. Get the details.

And you know this... how? I haven't seen an SLI proposal.. only heard rumor and conjecture. What I have heard is that the DAL SLI proposal would have had everyone within =/-.5% of their current seniority. Kind of invalidates your version doesn't it?

Not really, because "your version" was never substantiated in any way.

I told Ferd to contact his reps, where he can get the details directly.

Both you AND I are full of sh!t as far as he's concerned.
