I give it less than a month, and we'll be hearing about a potential US Airways-AA merger. Sure makes a lot more sense that Jet Blue - AA.

You are correct, it wasn't Nordstrom. Wanna Hot Dog while you play at Fenway ? |

To be honest I would think you would be thrilled with how things turned out for you. You were able to maintain a job at a above average pay rate with a viable carrier and will have gained some additional retirement benefits. With the condition of TWA at the time of the merger I would think you would consider that a huge win!! Congratulations on having your career saved and being able to enjoy the retirement perks you will get from AMR.

I think you're really going out on a limb here. There is no reason he should be "thrilled" about his fate. Nor does his original post suggest he fails to acknowledge he personally was fortunate.
Your post fails to acknowledge the manner in which the vast majority of the TWA guys were treated, as you're too busy trying to prop up the ridiculous notion that any of this was a "huge win" for at least some of them. At the time AMR purchased TWA, it was not clear that their future was any bleaker than, say, UsAirways. While there is a good chance that they would eventually have liquidated in light of events such as 9/11, SARS, and the economic mess we're in, this was not foreseeable at the time. As such, it cannot serve as the rationale for what happened during the merger. Still, some AMR pilots will remain convinced TWA was headed for the brink, and that is their prerogative. Regardless, the TWA people had a long difficult game of "airline career roulette". They were not very fortunate, but they were always graceful about it. There exists a legitimate difference of opinion between the AMR and TWA pilots about that merger, but there is no legitimate argument for a Delta pilot to tell a TWA pilot he should be "thrilled". Instead, Delta pilots should be grateful for what we have, relative the TWA pilots, and pray we don't ever get to walk in their shoes. |

bEagle
Rumor has been strong re: B6 + bEagle in SJU. AA is an unlikely candidate, like many have pointed out.
|
What do you mean, B6 buying out AE's routes down in SJU?
|
Also heard from a guy I serve with that Eagle is being bought out by Colgan when AMR dumps them...anybody want to confirm/deny?
|
Lolz!!!!!!!!!

This is one of the silliest things I've heard. Jetblue and AA are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
The most likely scenario for a future merger would be AA and US. |
Ygbsm!

If we could shift gears momentarily an think like non-pilots for a moment.
NYC. Arguably the most important aviation market on the planet. Star alliance: A combined UAL/CO on the west end in EWR. Strong fortress hub, well positioned. SkyTeam: JFK based, DAL/NWA anchorpoint for the US operations. 160-170 slots. It talks with USAirways to slot swap and gain dominance in LGA. Delta Air?s New York LaGuardia Swap Makes American ?Vulnerable? - Bloomberg Sharply contrasted with the remaining Global alliance OneWorld: AA new underutilized terminal with room to grow. 60-70 slots @JFK. B6: 100+ slots at JFK, domestic, lower RASM/dollar generated per slot. This observers opinion: Wall street will line up to give AA the financing to buy B6 without blinking an eye. |
Should we play the "Price" is right? ;)

I wouldn't count on it seeing as how Wall Street has their heads up their a$$es right now...and AA for that matter. |
In Canada, the Hudson's Bay Company owns several banners including The Bay (a middle-to upmarket traditional department store) and Zellers (a discount retailer that owns some former K-Mart Canada locations but is presently being sold to Target). So couldn't AMR own two distinct airline brands?
|
Well with the recent news of all the Aircraft orders for American and the sell off of Eagle, I guess all the JetBlue merger rumors are now pretty much put to bed.
|
Agreed...now lets all move along because there's nothing else to see here.
