I dunno where the idea that Republic’s training department is the worst came from. No one really thinks that here at Republic. That’s bad information. With Republic hiring 50-60 a month, how many do you expect to fail? A number of those because that’s what is realistic and pass/fail rates at Republic are the same as anywhere. My training was just fine here.
Upgrade is not 5 years, not even at DCA. It has come down in all bases except perhaps ORD and specially at DCA it will be somewhere around 3 very soon. It will continue to fall because our turn over is tremendous and recently our seniority list has grown.

When I started at Mesa, almost half of my class had just washed-out at other regionals.
Yes - you read that right.
The person sitting next to me on Day One of indoc admitted to me that Republic had just let him go . . . after 86 hours of IOE.
Not one of these pilots failed training at Mesa.
Several of them required extra training, however. Like repeating each sim session.
I found this to be (ahem) odd, so I asked a couple of check airman about it. They assured me that it was just a fluke - that none of these pilots would have passed IOE at Mesa had they been sub-par.
I will stand by my statement in a previous post - that I have never encountered a problem during my training at Mesa. Nor have I ever met an IOE captain who would sign off anyone whom they wouldn't put their own family on board with.

In my class, we had only one guy who got tired of 135 operations in a wide body who was a retread. That was out of 15 guys.

Go to the airline that fits you the best. Contracts aren’t comparable. Republic has considerably better work rules and pay. If you require good health insurance definitely go with Republic. Mesa does have a faster upgrade. Schedules are typically pretty good at Republic with efficient trips.
I don’t know much about mesa’s training but people do washout at Republic. Not a lot but it does happen. I have found some of Mesa’s past hiring practices concerning. Not saying there aren’t good pilots there, but they do have a reputation for being a second chance airline.

Can you tell me a single last name, and whether he is an FO or a CA, and at what base? Not that I don’t believe you. I only know one guy who left PSA, came to Mesa, and ended up going back to a different American regional. It doesn’t sound like he left PSA on bad terms.
