Potential Side-stepper here!

Hey folks I've been with G7 for 10 months now and commute from SoCal to ORD but would much prefer something like PHX....is that senior or junior for you guys and/or how soon outta training could i get it? How's your scheduling department? What does your company leadership think about its people?
THanks in advance.....

Let me answer the questions. Talking just crj because that’s what is in phx.

Phx is jr to dfw right now. All new hires are doing a stint in IAD. Plan at least a month or two. Prior 121 time? Fast upgrade. I would be higher in phx than dfw as a ca. Ca movement in the first 4/5 of the list is slow. Plan extended reserve as ca. Fo - not much reserve right now. We have fewer fo than ca but this see saws back and forth.

Crew tracking - marked improvement in the last couple years. Their job is hard but they have always dealt with me respectfully as I do with them.

Since going public the leadership has seemed to recognize the value if their people. I love the people I work with.

Realize this is a severely understaffed airline and it does impact QOL.

Management does a good job pretending they care and that’s reflected in our pay checks. No min daily credit. Near lowest Captain pay. You’re already typed so training will be a breeze for you. A large percentage of our fleet with United is only under contract for the next few months.

Yeah, why commute? SkyWest has LAX and SAN bases, as reflected in the pilot domiciles website. Compass is still in LA (and Phoenix) too.

The issue may be how long to hold those bases.

Be careful choosing Mesa, on the last 3 standing bid awards hardly anyone has been awarded PHX. Its taking about 9 months to get PHX currently. If not more. Most new hires get IAD and then DFW shortly after but the domicile assignments lag behind. In June they will award bases for the month of October.

Do you blame management or our Union for our pay. Just think if you were a business man. Would you try to save money anyway you can as long even if it included labor. The Union is where I look to correct the inequality in my pay

Looking to Mesa ALPA to address pilot pay... Hahaha.
One needs to look within and what choices an individual can make to earn more money...

One has looked within. Has realized this industry broken in America, as great as it is its not always fair even though you do everything right. You fly in a system that supports a major airline but the major does not hire you. I could side step to another regional, then I'd give up my seniority and wonder schedule. One could do freight. Still exploring that option might give FedEx a try. One actually likes Mesa except the pay, one thinks why not help or fix the problems here instead of running away. One thinks the Union can be better and fight for better pay and benefits.

You might try Fed Ex? Why aren't you beating down their door? The system isn't broken, it just requires a lot of luck and good timing. It also requires you to open your mind and give consideration to other opportunities that may not be your childhood dream. Like myself and the majority of my co-workers, we never planned to be where we currently are, was never on my radar while I was at Mesa, wasn't something I even realized I would like. In fact I was so wrapped up in the pax way of doing things, I used to state I'd never ever do X, Y, and Z. I do X, Y, and Z on a daily basis now and would never look back.
If you pigeonhole yourself to one exacting career path, you are essentially putting all of your eggs in one basket, in the hands of a couple different HR departments. I don't like those odds myself. And for all you know, you may find yourself liking another path ten fold more than what you were on.

Well said my friend

“Well said” if that’s the way you think. Let me break some things down for you. “You might try FedEx? Why aren’t you beating down their door?” I’m not sure I want to fly for them that’s why. I like their company, I like the flight crews I jumpseated on and interacted with. I’m doing research. To see if it’s a good fit. That’s why I am not beating down their door. I am a little different I became a pilot because I like to fly. I am looking for a company that is a good fit for ME. Not just the highest paid, the coolest newest equipment, or best on time performance lol. The system is broken. You know why? Hard work, overcoming obstacles, education, dedication, doing your best, doing the right thing, positioning yourself, the extra mile and all the other ingredients that go into living and attaining the American dream is what you, myself and everyone else reading this forum was taught or conditioned to do. That’s what the systems is supposed to be Especially in our field. Your exactly right it requires a “lot of luck and good timing”. That’s what they should be telling future pilots yes system is broken. If I was told that before I went to flight school and college I would have chosen differently (maybe). I flew corporate for many years from the early 2000s till a few years ago. Mesa was not on my radar, I had a friend who I knew was here and he knew what I liked. Mesa was a good fit. I could have gone to Endeavor, Envoy etc. I wanted a good fit just not decent pay. I like Mesa but starting to explore other options. That will be good fit for Me. My mind has been open since the 1993, my mind being open does not mean it fits what I’m looking for. For you it did and congrats. I have not applied to Delta and won’t people think I’m crazy. It’s not a good fit. I’ve been flying long enough to know where ever I fly I need to fit in and be happy and not just try different things and hope I will be happy. It worked for you, glad it did. We are all different in what we seek and what we want. Look I realized long ago I may never get to fly the 787 and I can’t control that, I even considered Norwegian, thought I could by doing and checking every box. May never happen but what I can control is doing research and choosing baskets where I put my eggs, because they are my eggs. If I don’t want to fly for Atlas, Kalitta, or Delta. I’m not going to apply because I probably know not a good fit. Some companies I’m just getting to really learn like FedEx. Oh yea I was pigeonholed in this industry the second I chose this career. We all were. Just some holes were bigger for others.

I was in your shoes, hang in there and learn from these posts rather than taking offense. The majors laughed at me after 18 years 121, 14 years as a captain. Who you know still matters, I found a place to hang my hat and I hope you do too

No Land 3 05-26-2019 10:35 PM

That's a possibility that every pilot faces, that they do everything correctly and still don't get the job. It would be a lie to not acknowledge that. However, it'll never come if you give up.
