Mesa to Furlough an Additional 250 Pilots

"As many of you know, we have been overstaffed for some time. In fact, we postponed a scheduled October 2008 furlough in anticipation that attrition would lower staffing levels over an 8-10 month period. Unfortunately, since our March furlough notification letter, attrition rates have declined and an additional eight aircraft have been retired from our fleet."

".....Currently, we plan to furlough approximately 250 pilots through January 2010."

Bad news for everyone. Condolences to everyone hitting the unemployment line. :(

Saw this coming for the past year. Unfortunately SkyWest probably won't be running classes for another year. Also not sure if it's an additional 250 or enough more to make the total 250.

Is this due to PBS improved efficiency?

Sorry to hear that... And I don't expect ANY Delta Connection company to hire any time soon, not just Skywest.

And the Delta decision isn't even out yet. Good luck to those being furloughed. Most probably won't come back-

Wow! I am afraid that any chance of good news in this industry is fading quickly. I certainly could not blame anybody who would choose not to come back to such a detoriating industry.

Sorry for the bad news for Mesa and the whole airline industry. I hope it will not be a long furlough. Things will start looking better in the economy by the end of the year. Good luck to all.

No offense, and I feel for those of you that are getting f-ed...but this is why if you agree to PBS, you make darned sure that you push for job protections and extremely detailed language regarding line construction and reserve levels as a condition of acceptance...

I don't think so. The first 50-100 might have been.

We're dangerously short right now, CA on CA flying happening daily on each fleet, phone calls on days off (I got called all three days I was off this weekend). All of this is happening now, and there are 50ish leaving between now and the end of June.

I understand the dash is in dire straits right now, as they are barely going to have enough F/O's to cover the hard lines next month.

I think there is something big behind this decision. Losing delta would make sense, since we have about 250 pilots on the Freedom certificate.

I'd say paxhauler is dead-on...the numbers just add up. Also, I commute regularly on Mesa (thank you, by the way!), and I've been seeing CA/CA almost more often than not (at least with the IAD crews).
