Couldn't have asked in the Mesa thread? This really deserves it's own thread? This speaks volumes to the type of people we are getting now.....

He has a good point, minus the condescending comment. Mods, lock this up.

Can someone please explain to me again what the problem with Mesa Airlines is? Phone interviews? The only thing a company can't find out with a phone interview is what you look like. Low starting pay? Every company was there until recently. Filling classes with pilots that other regionals don't want? Everyone has to pass the same training process. I fly with a car dealer who says, "Why pay more if you don't have to?" If Mesa found a way to keep classes full without increasing pay, why would they pay more? It doesn't make sense to.

I think all starting pilots should get paid more, absolutely. But, what exactly is the hostility toward Mesa?

How about the fact alone that you have to purchase your own damn iPad!

I actually didn't mind buying my own. My previous job was 135 charter, and they provided us an iPhone and iPad. But they monitored everything we did on it, including reading our texts if they had suspicions.

My gf once put the Netflix app on the iPad, and I was called into the office the next day for questioning. Apprently, the FAA approved them for use only with certain, pre approved apps installed.

At Mesa, you are free to do anything you want with the iPad.

Either they washed out of Mesa training, or work at Envoy / Skywest. Envoy / Skywest people have a superiority complex, and look down at anyone who does their same exact job that didn't have the same ridiculous, outdated, and inefficient vetting process they went through. They will also look down at you because you are "initially" paid less than them. They are typically short sighted and can't grasp the idea that you will make much more than them after you upgrade. I upgraded in 18 months, while at Envoy I'd be capped at 40$ after 4 years. Making 68$ hr at 4th year pay at Mesa? Oh yeh, collecting TPIC while they are racking up that valuable SIC time...

Truth be told, nothin wrong with Mesa. In fact it may be the best choice. Every regional is a special spot in he11. Choosing the most painful spot will, provide, non stop motivation to get down the road.
Hate and frustration are powerful motivators. Go to Mesa and your pain will be there, albeit for a shorter calendar period.
The faster you get through the regional slog, the faster you start building seniority at a major. Seniority at a regional is like Monopoly money, it's fun, but essentially worthless. Go to a regional and get comfortable, you will be giving away vast earning potential and precious seniority positions. Crash pad + Mesa= high speed, low drag career path, live at mom and dads in domicile- loss of several million dollars at the end of your career, but at lest you will have mad video game skillz.

By all of this you are referring to an "interview"?

I have a 2 and I'm waiting for that thing to quit being supported by Jepp. I'm not buying another one, and I'm pretty sure that the company does't offer paper charts anymore...yet they aren't going to offer any support or financial assistance to current employees. Your move Mesa...you can't force me to buy a new one, and if you don't offer the paper charts anymore I'm not sure how I'll be legal to fly.:p

No, Mesa's interview is a long process that coincides with ground school, sims, and IOE. I am referring to your stupid "pre interview" where a person from HR asks you stupid questions that don't really relate to the job, and when you ask them a question, they have to go find a pilot to answer them because they have no qualifications to even be interviewing a pilot to begin with. Cough "Bob Trout" Cough. Wasting money on hotel rooms and travel as well for that stupid circus act. Or maybe you get lucky and have to sit in front of a young punk who thinks he is gods gift to aviation and a know it all, and he asks a question pertaining to an electrical system of a GA aircraft, and it turns out you shame him for knowing less than you, and he spends the next 2 hours googling the answer to only find out that he is the idiot. Ahem, Skywest. Or you can show up to Mesa's class room, be greeted by people who are friendly and want you to succeed, and don't treat this as an ego boost to themselves. Gee, I wonder why Mesa has no issues filling classes?
