UAL vs SWA in Houston?

I was considering living in Houston and saw that both airlines have domiciles there.

What are the positives/negatives of each?

I hear SWA has good scheduling flexibility earlier on, and I have two small kids that I'd like to be home for more now when they are young.
I also hear UAL allows for more 'productive' lines, but might take longer to get senior enough to be home more during the weekends.

Any insight is appreciated!

- also, we aren't tied to Houston, but enjoy the beach and warm weather, so other domicile recommendations are welcome!

SWA: Great financial health, happy culture, fly a 737 as long as you want

UAL: Fly a 777 / 787 someday, international routes, not sure how culture is.

I would go with whoever offers a class first

Nothing wrong with SWA whatsoever.

US while have far more retirements, and wide-bodies offer a different lifestyle and even more pay.

Go get hired by more than one airline. Then, you can figure out what you want to do.

Good point!

How long does it currently take to hold IAH with United? That's one point in favor of SWA at the moment, I would suspect.

Running at about a year right now. If hiring continues unabated, I'd say it will trend down towards 6-9 months. Doubt it will ever get below six.

I stand corrected on this statement and will now publicly flog myself in the hotel window. The latest snapshot of the current vacancy bid showed about half a dozen unfilled 737 FO slots in both IAH and DEN. A couple of them in ORD too. No unfilled Bus slots though. Although I don't think anyone will be getting IAH/DEN/ORD in Indoc, it is now conceivable to get any of these bases on the 737 just a few months after starting Indoc. Good times for now.

Can someone post United’s fleet mix in IAH?

Is there a readily available source to see their fllet mix in other domiciles?

Thanks.
