Guard bumming with other units?
Is it possible? I imagine that quite a few units are bottom heavy with everyone bailing to the airlines as soon as they hit ATP mins. I'm worried about getting enough flying time when I get off seasoning days. I imagine local sorties wouldn't make much sense, but I would love to jump on a deployment since I won't be back from PIQ before my unit heads out.
Also, under the new "Total Force Office Training" model, can Guard dudes go fly with a Reserve unit or even AD?
Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. Are there any ANG herk bros that can tell us how many hours we can usually get a year local flying? 60 day deployment? I hear "the Deid" and think tankers. I know those dudes put up some serious numbers, but from what I can tell the C-130 not so much.
Thanks

in the 135 when you take off you land 12 hours later and that was all in the air. In the 130 you takeoff and you land 12 hours later but 5 of those hours would be spent loading and offloading cargo. Reconfiguring the back of the plane takes up a lot of time.
I was a bum when I flew the 135 and I could normally get about 500 hours a year in the late 2000s. I have been a part timer since I’ve been in the 130 but I know the bums don’t get anywhere near that much time.

when I flew 135s it would be 120 hours a month on deployment. Now I fly the 130 and it’s more like 80 a month on a deployment when you are flying a lot. I’ve also deployed in the 130 where we barely flew. It was like 20 hours a month. YMMV

I was a C-130 guard bum from 2011-2015. I averaged about 250hrs/Year while hustling with numerous deployments. I was a rent-a-copilot for another squadron and had a ton of fun but didn’t rack up hours as I wanted. C-17 is the spot if you need hours.
