Pilot and Military, but not a Military Pilot

I know that airlines look at Military pilots favorably and that they can make it to the majors faster than straight civilian guys. My question is, do the majors or LCCs look at Military (non mil pilot) guys any better or different than straight civilian pilots? I'm sure there are plenty of enlisted guys that got all their ratings on the civilian side while reserve or after AD. Any positions that might get you some bonus points like 1st Sgt, or other leadership positions? Thanks for any/all information.

It didn't seem to help me get an interview but I think it helped in the interview.

Your career progression will be 100% civilian, that's the competitive environment for you. You won't get any significant shortcuts.

The mil background will grant a tiny bit of extra credit, they know you'll show up on time, with clean shave and pressed shirt. Might also be a good conversation point at an interview.

Thanks for the feedback.

At Delta, it’s an enhancement to the rest of your qualifications. The silo you’re in won’t change, but it will move you up in the silo.

I took my Medal citations to my interview. Those certainly felt like they helped.

What about military pilots from foreign countries? I'm a Canadian Airforce pilot with about 2700 TT and 1000+ TPIC (all Canadian mil - c130 and trainers), but with an FAA ATP, degree and green card. Which silo do I fall in? Military? Civvi? Somewhere in between?

Well now they know that you brought great credit upon yourself and the USAF. ;)

I brought my combat action ribbon. But it’s a ribbon and not a medal so delta said no 😔
