The jet is designed for a stable ISR platform and a mainly level attack aircraft though you can obviously make some diving attacks too for certain ordnance deliveries. The MK-15 (ball turret), though speed limited on the Scorpion (not the AT-6), doesn’t have the same limitations with blanking as some shoulder mounted systems (e.g. ATFLIR). I’m pretty sure Bret’s answer to the glide was like 30:1.

Dive? Doubtful.... If you mean pop.... perhaps to push the LAR out but if you are in contested airspace then you screwed up royally.

You mean the mX-15 ball i'm guessing?

Anyone else who's flown this thing raise your hand ..trust me it glides like a maniac.

You don’t have to be in contested airspace to employ a 10-15 deg dive delivery.
I’ve not fire laser guided rockets, but I wouldn’t think they were generally fire in level flight.

Yeah the armed overwatch concept presumes air control, but that doesn't mean the low-intensity guys on the ground who are in receipt of your ordnance might not shoot back with something. No need to loiter down than any longer than necessary.

..ergo quit 'diving' at the ground .....

Lets re-cap...no diving / no system for it..... And shooting rockets has nothing in common with any mission this thing would/can do. Mark, Drop, Guide...

You're mistaken about the wing...it's basically a glider the way it is now. It has a 11:1 glide ratio if i remember correctly...floats like a banshee

I imagine it would with that aspect ratio.

I should have clarified: I imagine at moderate to high AoA, turbulent flow starting at the upper intake lip would be messy under the wing root. (ie, maneuvering-combat flight).

But I can see that at cruise or armed overwatch, AoA would be low, and that is not a consideration.

Incorrect for the laser guided rockets.
Proven concept with the aircraft.

Thanks for pulling that up.
I’m sure a lot more has been accomplished in the almost 3.5 years since that video was produced.
