Default Counter-Drug Guard - VSP Payback

Hi -

Hoping some guard-smart folks could help me out:

I'm taking the VSP (first version - getting out in a month) and applying for a counter-drug-funded FTNG slot. The folks at their personnel office say I would be on annual Title 32 ADSW orders.

I've learned around the web that counter-drug activities (and manning, pay, etc) seem to be funded from a different pot of money than a normal FTNG slot would be.

VSP payback stipulations state that you will need to pay it back if you go to active duty, as well as active duty in the ARC, which includes (from AFPC's site) "AGR positions and performance on active orders (MPA or RPA days) of 180 or more days consecutively."

The guard unit has stated that it would definitely not be AGR. My question: would this position be under MPA/RPA days and does it sound like I would have to pay it back? Counter-drug guard activities seem to be funded from the Office of the Secretary of Defense directly, as opposed to from any specific military service - and I suspect this may have implications into the whole payback requirement equation.

Check my other posts for the other research I've done and the conversations I've had with AFPC - this new question arises from new guidance from their Force Shaping website in how they define active duty in the ARC.

Thanks!

Counter drug slots are funded by a different stream. You will most likely be on long tour (30 days +) ADSW, which stands for Active duty special work. Full bennies and the same active pay as always. Catch is that it has to be re-authorized every year. Our counterdrug/RAID pilots have been riding the ADSW train for 10+ years. It has survived many changes, including the latest Army aviation transformation issues(S & S battalions). All the ANG guys are in the same boat - not going anywhere but to the bank. CD orders usually run 179 days at a time. You should be all set.

Thanks Dustoff. Incidentally, in one of their replies, AFPC suggested I try to get on 179 day orders each time - so from your input, looks like I may be able to bypass this whole issue.
