Claiming UPT time

Guys,

Since most of the apps have gone online I was wondering what everyone is doing about their time in UPT. Seems like it would be kinda dumb to not include it, but some places don't really seem to offer a place to add that in. Would it be a stretch to qualify it as FO time? I'd hate to think my score was screwed because the computer didn't give me a place to claim an additional 280ish hours of flight time.

Thanks

GNH

It's not FO time(or SIC), it's student time. Count it towards TT or non-PIC/SIC turbine totals only. Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up to be hammered in an interview. At SWA and UPS, they do check your logbooks.

T-6 Solo time and the T-1 Team sortie were the only PIC hours I claimed for UPT. T-1 student time I claimed as SIC since in the military and civilian world it requires a 2-person crew...and Part 61 says that a person not type-rated may act as SIC in an aircraft if the time is being used to meet the requirement for a type rating and no passengers or cargo are being carried for hire. Plus, there can't "not" be a SIC. I don't see how you can get 280 hours in UPT though...DO NOT COUNT the "Other" time. I came back with 95 hours in the T-6 and 122 in the T-1. My ARMS record says I have 277 hours of UPT time because it included OTHER time...Airlines don't want to know about your jumpseat time in the T-1.

Thanks,

I haven't been including it unless it specifically asked for it. Didn't want to cook the books, but don't want to short myself either.

I don't think there's anyone would fault you for adding your UPT "flight" time to your total time. I added my tweet solo as my first and only Turbine PIC too (Someone had to be PIC, right?) I'm not sure but I don't think I got nearly 300 hours at UPT. Be sure to NOT count your sim time as "flight" time, It's most definitely NOT flight time. Good luck.

Maybe it's not all UPT time, not sure. Guess I really need to get a logbook and look at each sortie, but the last printout I had showed me with 283 hours of "student time". Maybe some of it is from my student time spent at Altus and Little Rock, but it doens't really break it down, so I was under the impression all of it came from UPT. I flew the Tweet and T-1, so not sure if that makes a difference or not. And I'm not counting my other time in any of my totals.

Dang...280...when I went thru we got like 85 hours in the tweet... and another 100 or so in the talon.....i log it all as student time...except my solo t-37 and t-38 time... thats PIC.... somebody had to be.

gasnhaul 09-18-2007 10:06 AM

Herc, you mention the Talon time, so maybe some of the "student time" is indeed from my days at the MWS schoolhouses...again, not sure. Unfortunately I don't think the ARMS database includes UPT, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to figure out any of the individual sorties since I've never kept a logbook.

But, since I've been through Altus as a copilot, aircraft commander and an IP, plus Little Rock as a Crossflow/AC I would think if those hours were all included on top of my UPT time I would have more than the 280 my reports currently shows. Looks like I'm going to have to do some digging...

OK, pulled the records and the time is correct...but here we go:

188.7 hours total in the T-1
112.5 of which are hours rec'd
76.2 listed as other time

94.8 hours total in the Tweet
85.4 of which are hours dual
9.4 listed as solo

So, this begs some questions. Is there such a thing as student other time? Can/should you include this time or no? I'm kinda of the mind that student other time is still student time and can be included as total time and/or total turbine.

Anyway, the total of 188.7 and 94.8 does indeed total 283.5...

GNH,

If you meet the PIC requirements without using a fine tooth comb to delineate your student time, then just lump your student time all together. I had 281 hours of student time and only claimed 200 hours of it because the other 80 were sitting in the T-1 jump seat. Your Altus time is not included in that student time. I can't answer for the tanker world, but in the C-17, we receive our qualification checkride in the simulator prior to flying the aircraft so we count all of our "student" C-17 time as SIC.

Don't log the student other time. If you sincerely need those hours to make your resume stronger, I would consider flying some more (if possible) to get some more PIC.
