Default VFA Command Tour?

F/A people,

What's the normal command tour length for a VFA squadron? How about XO?

Thanks

About 2-2.5 on average. Usually 6 months as PXO (on coming XO), One year as XO and then One year as CO. Give or take a few months.

Oh, OK. Just found out a buddy of mine just turned over after one year, I was a little worried if that was normal, or if I'd be reading about it navy times next week. I didn't know the PXO/XO stuff counted towards the two years.

There are some who spend 15 months in each job and there is a move in the bureau to get rid of the XO fleet up and make it more like the Corps who use a senior O-4 as the XO. The goal is to make more room for joint and IA/GSA.

15 months is the standard for both XO/CO equaling 30 months give or take depending on FITREP timing. PXO training track is anywhere from 4-10 months dependant on timing, orders, and type of syllabus they need.

Too bad, I would say it is a real strength to the way we do business. Gives the #2 a chance to warm up and know everyone before taking the pointy end.
