Good ATP Schools?

The word "scab" is interesting. When they first announced that they would transition our jobs to GS with a from $7K - $13K pay cut, I suggested that everyone in our "Association" (reconginized bargining group not affiliated with any other group or union") get together and all agree not to apply for the jobs. Most Everyone agreed that would be a good idea, but there would plenty of other guys that would do our jobs for less money. I think SCAB would be an appropriate description. So, most guys are reapplying for thier same job at less pay. the question is: Are they SCABs for thier own jobs? That's kind of a running joke here. Plus, most of them are in a bind and this is about all they can do at this time. I suspect those Contential guys were in the same boat. I am not judging either way, but I am not applying for the GS job either. What about the RJ guys? Aren't they flying mainline routes for less money? What does that make them?

Since Harry Bishop is no longer an option (he's safely in prison where he can no longer be a menace to society....sigh), anybody have any recent experience with a mil-friendly ATP program? Is John Trask up at KPQI still a viable option?
I'll be doing Sheppard Air for the ATP written/FE written, so just need the "gentleman's checkride" portion.

Same question here. I'm ready to do the ATP practical. Obviously, I can fly anywhere, but if there is an east-coast option for military-friendly ATP (stationed at Langley), I'd like to hear about it. Langley Aero Club doesn't offer it. Thanks in advance!

Active thread on above request. My advice: get the test prep at Sheppard Air and take the test for free at a participating mil base education center. Then, go to your local flight school with a half decent reputation, get 4-8 hrs of quality training in a light twin, and take the checkride. You'll likely pass if you study enough, your performance in the plane should be rock solid by now.

Recently went through Prairie Air Service in Wichita to get mine. The military to single pilot IFR in a light tiwn transition was pretty rough for me, but the guy running the school is a great instructor and his examiner was very fair. It's $240/hr and a $350 Examiner's Fee, and can be done in 3-4 day. Depending on your proficiency in a light twin under the hood you could walk away spending less than $3k. Good option for the McConnell guys or anyone else in the heartland.

I agree with Toonces. Shepard Air is great for the written prep. I went through regular flight school and got about 8 hours of prep in a light twin so I would at least feel comfortable in the airplane before the check ride. It is a little more expensive than going to one of the big ATP schools, but I just didn't want to do a check after only 2-3 hours in an unfamiliar airplane. I did mine at Aviation Adventures in Manassas, VA.
