I guess I must be missing something also, because I agree with the first poster. I can't find anything in the article to suggest they will screw us with 365's if we have less than a year remaining, i.e. extend our committment beyond our AFSC's. I know the CMSgt said they should, but he also said:

"there is no current initiative to revoke the option for 365-day assignments, said Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Rodney J. McKinley."

That tells me that unless you have more than a year remaining, i.e. you 7 day opt out of a PCS with more than 12 months remaining, then there are no worries for a 365.

Now 179 or 120 day AEF's are a whole different ball game... and yes, I too have seen the Air Force abuse those whom drop papers with little time remaining.

Honestly, I'm thinking the new 7 day option policy might be an improvement, forcing members out in 7 months. If anything, that would preclude the member who 7 day opts with over 12 months remaining from getting tagged for a 365.

I don't know how many of you have actually taken the time to read AFI 36-2110, but here is an excerpt from the current one:

Even though a DOS or retirement date is requested or established under 7-day option provisions, officers may be directed to participate in the original event, or may be selected for another event for which they have retainability or when the retainability requirement is waived.

that basically tells me that the USAF reserves the right to do with us as they choose. And that's the "current" reg. If anything, I'm thinking that letting us bounce after 7 months is an upgrade, i.e. it gives AFPC less time to F*&ck with us.

For me it's officially 11 months left and counting... (no word yet on my PC request)

I can't wait to separate

currently you can leave almost immediately should you 7 day opt. I 7 day opted and chose a DOS 7 months down the road to give me time to line up a job.

The tone of the article says to me, that there are a ton of guys 7 day opting 365s and while there is no current action to revoke it, the fact is they are discussing the issue. I would not be surprised to see it happen

the implication here is that if you 7 day opt, be prepared for a 179 at minimum. the real kicker is if your adsc has expired. then you can really be screwed.

FWIW, I have seen 7 guys 7 day opt and all were approved their DOS by AFPC with no 179s, so I guess you would have to have a douche sq cc

I think the groundwork is being laid for keeping people in the Air Force against their wishes if for nothing else but to fill tours that they are having trouble filling. My advice is get out now if you do not want what you all know is coming. A 20 year career in todays Air Force for new majors and below will demand at least one year long tour. I think that the hand writing has been on the wall for a while now...
