Alright, now for somewhat of a more direct answer: Apparently much if not most of the CIA's flying is now done by contractors. Most of these operations don't exactly advertise, y'know... a bit of time spent with google and a few visits to some 'black helicopter' websites will get you the names of some of the CIA's contractors.

FWIW, a bit of reading might be in order first. I recommend Christopher Robbins' "Air America" as a good start. It deals a lot with the CIA's flight operations in Vietnam and in the closing pages it addresses some of the changes in government (open records, unwanted press, etc) that affected how the Agency operated aircraft.

Seemed that there was an outfit in North Carolina that ad some exotic operations - rendition flights and such. Try a Google on "CIA airline, renditions" or something like that and you should find a newspaper article that was published a couple years ago after the founder died.

Those who are talking don't know and those who know don't talk, but there is much speculation.:)

Oh yeah, The Guardian... of socialist/liberal ideas. :( I'd trust the US branch of al-Jazeera = MSNBC more than the Guardian.

Tell you what though - I read websites and publications that don't agree with my mindset as closely as those that I agree with. Problem with the 24hr news cycle and single viewpoint choices is that people are never exposed to the other point of view. Know your enemies and that type of thing...

Fun article. Do you really think the CIA would be as stupid as alleged in the article?

Sounds nice though - lots of neat resorts and interesting flying!

I read and watch many newscasts I don’t agree with. I speak a couple other languages and frequently watch the news in those languages as well just to see other perspectives (the internet is a beautiful thing – thank you Al Gore! ;))

So basically I’m agreeing with you; I just think that The Guardian is about as reliable as The Enquirer is here...

...and to answer your question, yes I do believe the CIA could be that stupid, I just don't believe it in this particular case...

Excellent! What languages and what foreign news sources are you into?

Well, don’t want to get too personal on a forum but besides the British sources (FT, BBC, ITN, etc), I enjoy Deutsche Welle, Novosti, Vesti, Aftonbladet, Verdens Gang, and few others…

Apply. Wait. If selected, you will know. If not, you will hear nothing. Good luck.

And yes, many subcontractors support the global ops. And there are even subcontractors of those contractors. Paper trail...

Hall of mirrors.

FWIW, from the CIA website, they are currently hiring and one of the pre-requisite backgrounds is "piloting experience." Who knows if you would be flying, though. Also, I know the FBI does some of the flying for them - I think non-covert ops type missions.

What position did you click on? I can't seem to find it... Wish they took 'part-timers' ;)

I fly in the SF Bay Area and I have seen Cessna 206s coming into SQL with Indio call signs, I asked my instructor the first time I heard that on the radio and he said "that's a CIA plane"

There are a few more companies that contract with the CIA. The ones that fly renditions and other such admin hops are available via Google search. The others, well, word of mouth is where it's at. Anybody who really knows isn't going to post it on a website.

That's on a need to know basis only, and you don't need to know.

Flying for the U.S. Marshals JPATS Program would be similar and a stepping stone into other opportunities.

Btw, these jobs are very few and far in between.

It's like in any other flying job, you call a former Co-Worker/Unit Member, he/she will put out feelers and keep an eye out when a position's open.

Nothing special, .Mil type Op, only the names, uniforms and the color/type of the aircraft change, (same 'Ol BS different shop and much larger Travel Vouchers).

Just saying

Another stepping stone might be Janet in Vegas.

There are a few others but as I have seen, it is mostly on a who you know recommendation basis.

FWIW

FYI John,

The Company's been overtly actively recruiting for every position, (even Clan Operations Officer), several years now.

Their recruiting efforts are nothing new or secret.

The only thing that is required is that once you're "in the pipe" you're told "you're not in the pipe, nor ever been in the pipe."

And if you're lucky enough to become a Pipefitter you're now and forever known as a Window Washer.

Although they do take a lot of great Pipefitters out of the Industry you are given authority to use the secret bottle of Windex.

This info is right in their open source recruiting FAQs and recruiting packet.

Btw, There's nothing like "Laying Pipe for the Company."

jungle 10-10-2015 05:23 PM

There was nothing like working with Jim Rhyne.

You've been reading too much Clancy.

Most refer to it as the "agency," rather than "the company." Unless they've been watching too many movies. Most flying is contracted out.

Scraggly Heron 10-10-2015 08:54 PM

Start with the CIA website. If you have a TS/SCI clearance you probably know someone who can point you towards a recruiter, but it's unlikely that you're going to get a contact here.

These jobs are out there; keep in mind that it is a job, and that everything you've seen in the movies is complete BS. Good luck.

Yea John,

Potato, Potahto depends which Alphabet Company you're working for.

Btw, When was your last TS/SCI update?

If it's the Agency I'm working for, we call it "the Agency." It it's somebody else we call it by different terms of endearment depending on how much we like them that year.:D

Hey Jungle,

You have my respect, hats off to ya. I came in way after you're generation but was schooled by the old school generation. It's sad that I now watch your type starting to fade off and enjoy retirement.

But I really enjoyed doing some of that "different" type of stuff.
