In May,1980, I was on my way to the Indian Ocean on a -135 ferrying
two F-15's to Kadena. The boomer was hung over from the night before in PI.
After the third or fourth top off,one receiver got a kink in the hose- more of a "Z" than a sine wave. The hose ruptured, bathing the fighter in JP4. The hose came apart like a piece of flexible exhaust pipe stretched out to 30 feet!
Our other tank wasn't drouge equipped, so back to PI we went!
OPS wanted to foam the runway, but our A/C said he didn't want that *******
all over his plane, and anyway, the basket was forty feet or more behind the tail. When we stopped, the round basket was only half-round!
Fun and games in SAC!

Ok am I missing something here? Since when did F-15s use a basket to tank?

Well, in 1980 at least two of them were so equipped...
I observed them from the boomer's side "seat".

Are you sure? I can't find anywhere where it says the F-15 ever used a probe and drogue.

If so....then I'd have to say that you have seen a very rare animal.

Hokay, guys...
Still researching this one..I'll dig out my pics if I can find them.
I may be a child of the '60's, but I clearly recall the event.
The fighter jocks kept coming up under us inverted, and asking for gas.
They had a sense of humor--bored,too.

Make sure you get the most up to date version of photoshop and reference some of the Top Gun clips for fancy inverted flying!

Maybe you have poor aircraft recognition? An F-14 could be mistaken for an F-15.

Another issue I have with the story is, I've personally seen and have had drogues in trail upon landing. The damage, other than some scraping, is kind of minor. I can't imagine why the drogue would be "half-round".
