Perfect world - Rule #1 would be minimum of 2-yrs as a TR (1-yr as a commuting TR) before being eligible for hire as an AGR.

When I'm CSAF, expect it.

Dry Fly, from the research I did before leaving AD, you either need someone who thinks highly of you in the unit, have some serious quals that the unit needs, or have a situation which does not appeal to a lot of people, i.e. the Reaper.
GunnF16,

Were you able to secure your guard/reserve position before separating from AD? Looks to me like I have to wait till the end of my ADSC and separate before putting in any guard/reserve paperwork in? Is this true?

I had gotten hired before I put in any Separation or in my case a Palace Chase application. You can do Palace Front as well which is like Palace Chase except you're not asking for any time off any ADSCs. Once your PC or PF is approved, you can run through the 6 month Separation Process in anywhere from 6 weeks (me) to about 1 week (next guy to PC to Syracuse after me) if everything is primed. There was a message from CSAF just after I went through my process about trying to streamline the paperwork for transfers to the Reserves and ANG. you get a DD214 for your first period of active service on your separation date.

I'd say if you were hired to a specific billet, especially an AGR to a more difficult position to fill (sts), your PC application would be more likely to be approved than if you hadn't landed anything particular.

For AD to AGR w/ no Break in service (i.e. seperate 30 Apr from AD, sign in/swear in into Reserve component 1 May), it's just like a PCS as far as the benefits (i.e. TLE, DLA, travel days w/ your PCS voucher). You can elect to take time off inbetween and use your separation benefits and rejoin the service, but most people wouldn't recommend that. You can sell back leave that way and establish a new HOR but you don't get TLE or DLA w/ your move and the AF will only pay as far as your last assignment to HOR. JFTR covers to two situations and what your benefits/entitlements are.

Default Location and timing count

I separated from AD at Vance and was hired at Laughlin as an LSI Sim instructor and T-6 TR before I put in my separation request. I started work at LSI while on terminal leave for 2.5 months. I interviewed for one of THREE Laughlin T-6 AGR jobs two weeks before my actual separation. I was chosen for one of the AGR jobs prior to separating. One of the other jobs was given to another AD guy, not a T-6 IP. The other was given to a TR already in the unit for several years.

Several guys in the unit advised me to wait two months to start my AGR orders because of technicalities of the USAFR pilot bonus. So I was a TR for two months (obviously the perfect amount of time as a TR) and then started my AGR job. You have to have ten years since your aviation service date (the date you started pilot training) to receive the full pilot bonus in the USAFR (not sure of that applies to ANG.)

Just so it's clear, I got out and still got the bonus! I just like to hear myself say that sometimes.

I applied for every AGR flying job on REAMO (website available through AFPortal under Guard/Reserve Career stuff.)

There seems to be more frequent turnover at Laughlin than at the other UPT bases...
