Veteran's Day 2009
For all those who have served, or are serving, you have my gratitude.
For those who have paid the bitter price for the sweet taste of liberty, you have my unending respect, introspection, and humility.
For those who have lost a loved one in defense of our nation, or waiting anxiously over one still in harm's way, you have my thoughts and prayers for a safe return and joyful reunion.

For our wounded Veterans:
This country, our lawmakers---and we, the voting public--owe you an incalculable debt. At the least, you should be provided for in a manner fitting of one who sacrificed so much to fulfill national policy.
For the familes of our MIA: it is disgraceful that so little is done to retrieve our lost from semi-known locations.
For those of us on APC, I ask: write your Congressmen and Senators and tell them your views on honoring and caring for our wounded warriors, or locating and returning our MIA.

Albeit a little late to post, I thought this was a nice message from Randy Babbitt to the FAA
---------------------------
Dear Colleagues –
As I was reflecting on a message for Veterans Day, I couldn’t help but think first of the terrible tragedy at Fort Hood and the pain and anguish the victims’ families and loved ones are experiencing today. No doubt, all of them had long steeled themselves for the possibility of losing a son or daughter, husband or wife, in foreign conflicts, but not like this. So, our hearts go out to them, and I ask you to think of them in a special way this Veterans Day.
Much is made in the last decade or so of the “greatest generation,” referring to those who fought and died in World War II. And no doubt, they were a special group. My father was one of them. But, our men and women in uniform today are no less so. I was just thinking about the commitment that recruits for the military make when they sign on for military service.
For those of us in the civilian sector, we bring our talents, experience, and a set of skills and in return we seek to be compensated commensurate with those talent and skills. For military enrollees, they, too, bring their talents, skills, and experience, but they also bring something unique: the willingness to die on the job for the cause of freedom and liberty wherever they are sent.
That’s what makes them all special and worthy of our respect and admiration, no matter where they served or are serving, here in the U.S. or in lonely outposts around the world. They are all part of a great generation – a great segment of American society that has protected this country since its beginnings. In fact, today is the 234th anniversary of the Marine Corps, which came into existence in 1775 while this country was still a confederacy of 13 states. So, today, I want to give a special salute to our Marines, past and present.
I also would ask you to remember our FAA employees who are serving in theaters or war, such as Afghanistan and Iraq, helping to rebuild the aviation sectors in those countries. Working side by side with our men and women in uniform they too represent the finest tradition of public service and we are very proud of them all.
Randy
