I must have missed the part where someone whined.

Sounds like someone is a little touchy.

Back on track - as far as I know, a good portion of C-130 guys are gone 250-300 days a year. I could be wrong though, but it's what I've seen from my friends.

Whomever complained about "locations." It's a different war at 100 AGL than it is at up at the FL's. Anyone who complains about location as their biggest beef with deployments, is, with all respect, whining.

I thought the point of this post was just comparing and contrasting goods and bads.

I flew the F-100D, the first of the Century Series fighters. The first to go supersonic in level flight. Flew it for almost 6 years before transitioning to the A-10. I loved the Hun. It was beautiful with wonderful lines, and if you had reasonably good hands, was a joy to fly. Then the A-10 came along and our Guard unit got them directly from the factory. Checkout was a local job, with your first flight a solo job. Then for the next few weeks or so it was instruments, acro, formation, air combat, and ground attack. It was on one of the first GA rides that I finally noticed that the damn thing didn't have a Mach meter. I remember being depressed about that for a few months, until the allure of the A-10 got to me. After all, it did have a damn big gun.

Everyone has their role to play...some at 100 agl, some higher - it's largely irrelevant to the conversation. I've seen plenty of the war myself, and I've got a long list of complaints - most minor, some major. I'd love to know when my list goes from mere complaining to whining. I guess you'd be the judge of that?

Edit: NVM..just realized that you've never been deployed and have never fought the war at 100' AGL. Your comments are even more irrelevant. There's a lot of people on this board who have given a whole heck of a lot since 2001. I'd think twice before criticizing them about anything.

To address the original question…
F-111…low, fast, fun…dropping bombs on the range for quarters…double for shacks…double for switch errors……600k 200ft VLDs… TDYs to Germany, Italy and Turkey…low fly in Scotland…Vegas supersonic on the deck passing everything…intercept?...run away, run away…faster, lower
F-117…very capable…best for its’ mission…on time, on target…then there’s aircraft that do air-to-air or air-to-ground, but now I do air-to-show…strike an airshow pose…yeah kid those are pitot tubes not machine guns…yes, I flew that in…no it’s not cardboard…while flying, every time I do something right, I get a banana!
F-15C…dog fighting…ACM as the bandit…4v4…8v8…8vXX…TDYs all over the Pacific rim…Cope Thunder…King Salmon fishing…habu sake…Air Superiority!...need I say more?

A toast to every aircraft, the mission, and the warfighter on the ground!

the DC-3 ,75 years old next year, and still fighting thru storm, and clag, and getting the job done,at 150 knots,in low earth orbit, over the more challenging parts of the planet, not fast, just beautiful, throw a bladder tank in the back and cross an ocean, the best airchine ever made, hands down.Douglas's masterpiece,Ernie Gann's muse.
