Another case of 'Stolen Valor'

AP INVESTIGATION: Texas man faked way into Army - Yahoo! News

It looks to me like he is wearing the USMC Combatant Diving Badge and the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist Badge. Recon Marines aren't going to take kindly to this imposter!

I thought you were talking about this guy.
FOXNews.com - Blumenthal Claims He Misspoke About Vietnam Military Record, Defends Service

I know a guy who was well known as an Army Ranger with combat experience in Somalia. He owned a business that leveraged his "experiences" and first hand knowledge. It was all proven to be a fraud.

I'll just say I wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now. That kind of thing does not go over with real vets - and it's not like real vets are hard to find.

Jetjok 05-21-2010 05:18 PM

This Blumenthal thing, to some degree, has been blown out of proportion. I'm not saying that he didn't lie about his record as it pertains to Vietnam, because he obviously did. But, if you look at his record, he's been a very big proponent of veterans, for many years, and the majority of veterans here in Connecticut are behind him all the way in his political race. As it turns out, another of our distinguished candidates, Linda McMahon, the ex-ceo of World Wrestling Entertainment, and the wife of Vince McMahon, admitted that she gave information about Mr. Blumenthal's speeches to CBS News. As well, according to the local TV news tonight, she was somehow involved in manipulating the Blumenthal's speeches that were turned over to CBS. Regardless, He has been a good Attorney General for our state for many years, and as a 34 year vet, I both support him and forgive him for his stupidity.

No issues with his integrity? He's a liar, evidently, of the worst kind. But, it's your state, I guess. Send who you want to Congress.

Wow, Stockholm Syndrome maybe?

He lied about his military service and told stories of returning home from Vietnam. Even worse, as AG, we would hope that he would be a man of law and integrity. Apparently not. So what exactly is being blown out of proportion? And if he told those lies, what else has he lied about? Theres got to be more if he was this stupid. Mr. Blumenthal's story is only made worse when you learn about all of his attempts to avoid military service.

The fact that he is pro-military is besides the point. As a public figure, he should be pro-military anyways.

Liar

I read an article where it said he "misspoke" So I guess he didn't LIE...he misspoke. Scumbag!

KC10 FATboy 05-22-2010 07:38 PM

Yeah no kidding. Even after he is called out and has lied about it, his stance now is that he misspoke.

And have you heard the guy talk? The guy gives me the creeps about as much as that JonBennet Ramsey guy they dug up in kiddie-land Thailand. <shivers>

Also a little reprted fact that lends insight into the character of Blumenthal was he recieved 5 deferrals before he finally joined the Marine Corp reserve...He tried to use all his political clout and contacts to skate from military service. send him packing!

rickair7777 05-23-2010 05:32 PM

IIRC, he waited to join the reserves until there was little or no chance of his being sent to the 'nam.

Jetjok 05-23-2010 06:28 PM

Like I said, while I don't condone his lies, and as a Vietnam veteran myself, I will forgive his transgressions against my fellow Vietnam veterans. He has been a good AG for Connecticut and will probably be a good senator. Besides, I wonder if any of those guys don't lie on a daily basis. There are plenty of lies, spoken by plenty of our elected officials that have been more damaging than Blumenthal's claiming that he served in Vietnam. From what I can gather, in the speeches he claimed he served, he also spoke of being in the military during the Vietnam conflict. He should have corrected himself, or at least, when the news broke, he should have apologized, and I'm sure that if he loses the senate race, he'll understand why.
