Once you get past the hollow media coverage and the Hollywood version of things it is difficult to understand the kind of sacrifice that goes on every day over there.
Sebastian Junger (Perfect Storm author) has written a volume about the current situation-not the politics, but what it is like to be on the pointy end of policy. He has also co-created a documentary film that was just picked up by National Geographic. Those of you who are interested may want to read his book.
The book is an interesting look at what it is like to live in a forward fire base near the Pakistan border. Those of you who have not been lucky enough to be on the ground in a forward area might find it a good description.

On the website and face book page they have a link to where and when its playing. Its out in some cities now.
It needs to play in every college town so College kids can see what people their exact same age are living thru half a world away.
