Default Life insurance

What are you guys using for life insurance? I retired in March and am still looking for the best deal. I know that I don't want VGLI becuase of the way it shoots up. I would guess a 20 year term policy is what I need. With that said what is the difference between term and group? Should I look at AOPA or Navy Mutual Aid? Or maybe someplace else? I need to get this off of my "to do" list soon.

Thanks

Hands down, Navy Mutual Aid. I got jerked by ALL of the others (AOPA, USAA, AIG, Liberty, etc) when we got to the part where I disclosed that I was a pilot.

NMA does not discriminate against pilots. They charge the same for everyone an it is the same rate that a teacher, nurse, or anyone else with a "normal" job would be paying at their age and health.

Very happy with them.

Second NMA. About to turn 40 and they quoted my $88.00 a month for a million dollars of coverage. No pilot clauses. Better than anybody else's pricing.

The Navy does look good, been looking to add so I'll check it out. We've also been happy with AAFMAA (Army AF Mutual Aid Assoc). Good rates, no exclusions

I'll second the AAFMAA. Haven't found anything better yet.

Same here. Have 800 on me, 500 on wife, $58/ month. I also get about $60 refund every year. No complaints!

Are you guys getting term insurance? If so what is the term for your rate and amount of insurance if you don't mind putting it out there.

I am 40 going on 41 and want probably about 500K on me and 250K on the wife who is 31. Both of us are in good health. I think those amounts would more than cover if something happened to either of us. Any thoughts? Should it be more?

While on the subject, what about children? We are getting ready to have a baby.

Thanks all

I got $600 for me and $700 for my wife. The higher number for my wife is because of the unique day care needs I would have for our son as a line pilot.

Both 30 year "flex" term. $25.80 for me and $29.60 for her. No one even came close especially since I own and fly a light GA tailwheel. The airlines or 135 is one thing but GA either excludes you or drives your rates through the roof.

Same rates whether you are a pilot, a hermit or seal team 6.

Thanks, I will check them out. I also own and fly a GA plane.

Would Navy and Army mutual aid be the same price? Or should I check with both to be safe. Also do the want your military medical record or do you just let them know what is wrong with you now? I would hate to die only to have them come back with some fine print that I didn't tell them I cut my finger when I joined the navy and them try to deny my wife the money.

I have no problem getting a 1st class medical but did have some medical problems way back when that were treated and cleared up.
