Default LPRP and Homeowner's Assistance Program

For any of you that came back on active duty under the LPRP, were you able to use the Homeowner's Assistance Program when you sold your house? I have found conflicting guidance out there and am waiting for a call back from the program office but figured I'd ask out here while waiting. We had renters that we thought were going to buy our house but they just decided to move out. We've got a year and a half of orders left and would rather sell the house now than try to hang on to it. Just trying to find out if we're eligible for the program or not because we came on AD for a limited time. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been turned down because I voluntarily separated in 2007 (there's a loophole saying I'm not eligible because of that, even though I'm back in and PCSing, deploying, etc.). I appealed the decision and got turned down again. I'm considering writing a letter to a congressman now...

Thanks Chris. I still haven't gotten a call back from them so I guess my best bet is to just apply and see what happens.

Default Hap

Floater,
We applied for the HAP program last December and received a rejection letter just a week ago. We are going to appeal it though. I spoke to our Realtor and the JAG and they think we have grounds to win an appeal. I would be interested to hear if anyone else in the LPRP program has been accepted.

I know another guy who got turned down and ended up taking the credit hit to short sale. It seems like they turn down more people than they help...
