Supposedly, [academic situation] McPeak (boo; hiss!) told Oaks in 1992 to get rid of the F-4Gs; they were too expensive. Oaks told him he couldn't perform the mission without them.
He was 'asked' to retire. He did. He stood for principle, and I've always remembered him for it.

+1, it's sad to see so many good SNCO's and Officers get kicked down by the kool aid train once they are in a position change things...especially if they speak up for what is truly right not the "flavor of the month" for the kool aid drinkers. Some will not compromise integrity and retire or some will just admit defeat and bow down to the system..and then the cycle repeats itself.
