Any drone pilots on the forum?
Model airplane drones might be controlled by a straight carrier wave. Anything high-end is going to have encrypted comms.

Like most of our UAVs, this thing was rushed into service post 9/11, more quickly and cheaply and without the in depth design and testing you would expect of a manned airplane. It probably just malfunctioned.

??? UAVs are cheaper than manned airplanes and don't risk a gary powers incident. How is that a waste of money?

Intelligence gathering often prevents wars...it gives you reassurances about what the other side is doing, or is not doing.

Or we could just let those guys build a bomb unhindered... and then give it to al queda. You think you're fed up with war now, wait until tel aviv or NYC or DC vanishes in a flash of light.

Crazy .... Apple can lose an iPhone and they end up tracking it down to a specific apartment in a very large American city.

But the DOD loses a big ass UAV --- and we don't know where it is so we can't cruise missile it to death.

Good times ...

iPhones don't typically fall from FL500, and the apartments aren't in enemy territory (unless its in Detroit ).

I bet a beer we know exactly where it is. I also bet we're holding off on the cruise missile due to the immediate ramifications and the current budget environment.

It isn't so much that we can't...it's just that there's no justification for the CD. Our airplane did after all fly into their airspace.

It would have been nice if we had hammered the crash site before they found it though.

Im sure that it was not programmed to auto land in IRAN! I don't buy that either. The pictures look fake, the UAV looks fake, it all looks bogus.

Nice try IRAN, you suck.

Any examples on intelligence that has prevented a U.S. War?
