Default Passport Blue or Brown

I'm a fixed wing driver in the Army Reserve. We're planning an Atlantic crossing next month from the States to Germany and back. Do I need a military passport or can my regular blue one work?

Bring both, and check the foreign clearance guide. Odds are you will need neither.

If you're on gov't business, you don't even need a Passport -- NATO orders will suffice.

Eighteen years in MAC and AMC, only place I used the mil passport was Australia, never in NATO. If you commercial travel over, have it.

Are the Red ones still around, that's what we use to have in MAC.

They were in '05, don't see any reason they are not--official passport STOL exists.

If you fly into big military or international airports, you likely will never need a military passport. And while you can get by with ID card & NATO orders in NATO countries, it can be a hassle at "real" airports.

If you operate into something less than big airports, in less than developed countries, you may want to have the mil passport available - often they'll want to take them from you either to process, copy, or to hold until you leave - in this case I'd rather give up my brown one than my blue one. Often, having different colored passports amongst the crew can be more of a challenge than all the same color (regardless of brown or blue).

I always carry both overseas, you never know. One always stays on my person.
