I am getting out after 10yrs in the navy. I recently just put in for and got approved for a 60 day extension in my orders and now have a resignation date of Nov 1st. My question is when should I apply to the regionals? I would love to go straight to a major, but I have had zero bites so far? Any thoughts? 3000TT, 1750TPIC, IP, NATOPS Evaluator.

Yesterday.
Since you said you have had no bites from the majors, I assume you have all of your ducks in a row as far as the application goes. (ATP, 1st class medical, Interview Prep class, Logbook in order, Saved some money to survive 1st year pay, Letters of recommendation, Contacted people you know at every airline, etc..)
From one squid to another, you should have had applications in a long time ago. You should have already interviewed and accepted a job offer and burning terminal leave by now.
Get those apps in pronto, amigo.

^^^^.
That is what I was thinking. My timing with a Nov 1st separation date might be pretty good. I won't be eligible for terminal leave until Sep 1st. I was thinking if I don't have any bites on majors by then, I won't take any leave and sell back 70ish days, then go to regionals, am I messed up here?

Re. regionals, that depends on how current you are, and how you think you stack up for the majors. I assume you have multiple LORs on file at various majors? Your resume is only half the battle, your connections are the other half.
If you can honestly assess that you stack up well, I think there will be hiring before the end of the year. But if you end up sitting around for 6 months with no calls, and only then try the regionals...well, you might as well have gone regional early.

Is there any commitment to a regional if they hire you and train you in one of their aircraft?
Would a major hold it against you if you just got on with a regional and were already applying for another job?

I can't see how a Major would care about that. You are trying to stay current/bid your time/enhance your resume. They know the reality of the regionals be a crappy job.

Yeah, I have applied to JB but don't know anyone there, I find myself in a situation where i dont know many people on the inside of these airlines, with no one hiring for the last few years and the commitment going from 6 to 8 years, everyone I have flown with is either staying in the navy, or leaving aviation, or in the same boat I am in. The only recent hires I know are at southwest, but that won't help for a while.
