Default Fast jets low over Marin Co, CA

Hey all,

I have just relocated to Marin County, Mill Valley to be exact. In the several weeks we have been here I have heard fast jets flying over on 3-4 occasions but nothing REALLY low. Today in the low cloud and rain there was a fast jet over the house REALLY low. We are in mountainous terrain and couple with the crappy low cloud I was surprised how low this jet sounded. I obviously didnt see anything but it sounded like a pretty sharp pull up and climb shortly after.

I assume it was from Beale or maybe even Lemoore. Can anybody shed some light as to what it could have been and is this a common training run?

No complaints from me, just wondering?

Regards

I seriously doubt aircraft from Beale or Leemore would be flying fast and low over southern Marin Co, for several good reasons.

Airliners arriving SFO commonly fly over that area, not sure what the minimum altitude would be. W/NW SFO departures might be held low to keep them under arrivals?

You should look on a sectional and see if there are any VRs (low levels) in the area.

What does a pretty sharp pull up and climb sound like?

Dunno really. Im just a simple airline guy but I have spent my life at airshows and this jet didn't approach and depart at the same level or track.

Where are you located? There are a couple of low levels up north of SFO we run.

The Beale jets tend to stay over the coastline, but I'll let Huggy answer as the Beale SME. The last time I flew a T-38 down the coast was in 2010.

Edit to add: If you heard it today, it wasn't a Beale jet due to the end-of-fiscal year.

Just looked up Mill Valley. Way to close to San Fran for any VR/IR routes, didn't see any charted either.

Sure it wasn't some local in an L-29 or 39?

IR-207 is just off the coast....maybe someone getting vectored in to an alternate entry point? They'd (NORCAL) probably bring them in under the Class Bravo, I would think.
