Vets In Blue

Hoping to start a thread specific to Jet Blue's- Vets In Blue Conference, which supposedly happens in November. Apparently some have attended and it has led to interviews. If anybody has been- can you please share any news on upcoming events, what the conference was like, and if you got an interview out of it. Thanks!

hawgdriver 10-07-2013 04:56 AM

From what I've heard. Vets in Blue is on Nov 21st. I'm trying to info on it as well. I don't know anything else about it. If/when I hear anything I'll let everyone know

bluelion 10-07-2013 08:07 AM

I also read somewhere that it may be invite only? If so, how do we get one. I have an app on file, hoping that is enough as I am a Vet myself. Last year (I missed it) I think you only had to register online and show up...

gr8vu 10-08-2013 07:23 PM

Where was it held and what type of events did they have?

Viperstick 10-08-2013 07:31 PM

Where is it?

bluelion 10-08-2013 08:50 PM

held at HQ in NY...don't know much else.

bluelion 10-09-2013 09:32 PM

I heard that a Jet Blue pilot has to recommend you for an invite to the Vets In Blue...anybody else can confirm this?

captwilko 10-10-2013 02:52 PM

Heard you need to be invited as well. I'll snoop around and ask my buddies there to see how to score an invite.

gr8vu 10-10-2013 07:45 PM

I am doing the same. Sent some emails to my friends there.

gr8vu 10-11-2013 12:55 PM

Received the following--no official event planned at this time. Made it sound like they may decide by end of month if they will do it again in Nov.

bluelion 10-11-2013 03:32 PM

who did you receive this from?

402DRVR 10-11-2013 04:34 PM

Surprising as I spoke to the lady in charge of this last week and was told its the 21st. Wonder if thy changed.

I went last year when it was registration. When they started calling for interviews I got the call. Just finished training.

gr8vu 10-11-2013 06:55 PM

Wouldn't be surprised if pilot/training side is not tracking on HR/recruiting planning.

bluelion 10-21-2013 10:00 AM

just got the invite to the conference- Nov 21...not sure if I was invited (I asked somebody to invite me but I have not heard back from them) or if it is sent to all applicants who select military on their application?

130drvr 10-21-2013 05:49 PM

Got an email invite with my name on it. FWIW, had a JB pilot recommend me.

gr8vu 10-24-2013 05:46 PM

Signed up and got welcome email today.

BuckF15 10-25-2013 05:35 PM

Do they only conduct these in NY around this same time of the year? Can't make this one but want to keep my calendar clear for the next time around.

gr8vu 10-25-2013 08:16 PM

This is only the second year. Also in Nov last year.

gohfastur 10-25-2013 10:44 PM

What is it....?

Hi, all. New guy here. What is this conference, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!

BuckF15 10-26-2013 05:34 AM

Thanks gr8. If anybody can provide some feedback after attending this year, it would be appreciated.

djepage 10-29-2013 02:34 PM

Email from jB today:
The event is currently sold out, but there is a waitlist for tickets. We are hoping to either release additional tickets, or to schedule another pilots only date in the near future. So, if you haven’t already registered, please do so.

Thank you!

MikeF16 10-30-2013 03:20 PM

It would be nice if they opened the hiring window prior to the event. I'd like to have an application on file when I show up.

Can anybody confirm 100% job interviews based off of last year's fair?

hawgdriver 11-07-2013 03:29 PM

Got a call from JB today confirming I am attending Vets in Blue. They said they are going to open up the application window for pilot positions that week as well.

MikeF16 11-08-2013 06:23 AM

Hmm, another friend of mine got a call too but no call for me. I've got a registration ticket so I plan to attend. Anybody else get the ticket but no call?

Chowmif16 11-08-2013 06:56 AM

MikeF16,
I have a ticket, but no phone call. I got my ticket after being on the waitlist. I can't imagine that more is needed than just the ticket...
See you there,
Chowmi

TY.

Considering I already bought the nonrefundable tickets I plan to go regardless. That said, it would definitely be nice to be allowed in :). I'm fairly confident the ticket is good, but it would set a nice precedent of having an airline call me...

UPTme 11-08-2013 12:12 PM

Former wait list now with ticket, no call, app not submitted yet.

Chowmif16 11-08-2013 03:22 PM

I just got a call from JetBlue to confirm my attendance (1600 Vegas time, Friday). I was also told that they will start hiring that week.
If you go to their new jobs website you can fill out your profile information, to include hours, etc.

Cheers,
Chowmi

djepage 11-08-2013 04:24 PM

Confirmed ticket...no phone call. See ya there.

gr8vu 11-08-2013 06:07 PM

Ticket only for me...missing our 18 ship launch for the event.

vets in blue hold any weight?

Did anyone find out if this invite holds any weight or do you just score hr points for going?

Heard it's a great way to get an interview invite. Wish I could attend but I'll still be out in Afghanistan. Crossing fingers my application gets pulled when the new window opens. Looking forward to hearing how the event goes.

OldSkool 11-16-2013 12:00 PM

Any new info on the JB event? Are confirmation calls still going out?

UPTme 11-16-2013 03:08 PM

A buddy of mine got a confirmation call on Thursday.

hawgdriver 11-18-2013 06:27 AM

Any good recommendations on where to stay for this event? I'd like to stay somewhere I could just walk to the career fair but don't know much about NYC.

usmc-sgt 11-18-2013 06:33 AM

Holiday inn Long Island City is a ~5 minute walk to HQ and max 10 walk from E train (ride from JFK.)

Elcid93 11-19-2013 06:44 AM

Country Inn and Suites $90 govt rate one block from JB

MikeF16 11-20-2013 04:01 AM

Kind of wish I'd thought to ask this a couple weeks ago instead of a couple hours before I fly to this event but hopefully somebody can help. What can I expect at this fair? The other job fairs I've went to have been 4 minutes in front of targeted recruiters, and this one looks like 4 hours. Are there going to be presentations and seminars, or do I need to figure out how to fill hours of time with people who get to decide if I get a job or not. Obviously it's not an interview, but I'm sure I'll get the opportunity to screw up any chance of an interview :).

EDIT: complete aside -- are there airport shuttles to the hotels in the Queens area around the JB HQ? I'm staying at the Country Inn and Suits on Crescent, estimating a 1 hour $55 cab fare each way for the 13 mile trip!!!

Waggs 11-20-2013 05:41 AM

Same. Any other suggestions are appreciated!
