Agreed. As a NATOPS check airman in two different aircraft, I include "Check Airman" when noting those times. As only a squadron/station IP in two other models, I use "IP" but not "Check Airman."

The grey area comes when considering the fact that IPs can sign off Instrument Checks. Be that as it may, I only use the tag "Check Airman" when notating NATOPS IP time.

Clear as mud?

Under the Military History tab on Airline Apps its specifically asks:

SEFE/NATOPS:
(Please check this box if you were or are a military check pilot)

If you check this and your flight records clearly show you flew with an EP duty position and logged Evaluator time on your 781s(USAF) that should be good enough. As far as logging the time(PIC vs IP) I have heard various answers on this.

I think this is under the "be able to articulate it" category. If you have a good-faith reason to check it, and can explain why, that should be good. If you ain't a Check Airman, most would know it.

I concur but would anticipate speaking to this during the interview.

With recent hires, have most been IP/EP, or has sole IP been good enough lately....obv I'm just an IP not EP. Thanks.

LIG --

Welcome to the party. There is a TON of information on qualifications under the respective airline threads -- United has about 300 folks who posted their quals starting back from last March or so. Nothing has been consolidated yet.

Regardless -- from the military side, most are 3000-5000 hour guys, over 1000 hr of IP time, and a majority (i.e. 80%) are EP types . Like E6 said in the previous thread, if you are skimming the minimums, you may be waiting a year until "more qualified" (i.e. by the numbers) guys get a call.

There is no magical formula that is made public that I have seen.

At UAL every guy I've known who was hired was IP/EP. Not sure how much the EP matters if you have lots of IP time. EP shows a progression though...at least for older guys. A relatively young guy (newer Majors) would not reasonably be expected to be an EP.

I recently got picked up by Delta and they asked me about being an IP, but at no time discussed being an EP in the interview.

T6Alfalfa 01-14-2014 03:24 PM

I agree with what the other peeps have said in regards to the Military section taking care of the EP question, I didn't check the 'Check Airman' box but annotated it in the mil section. As far as logging the time, I lumped my EP time in with my IP totals since there wasn't an EP column. I figured I would make an note of it in the interview.

There's a separate block for EP on airline apps. No, you're not a "Check Airman". Same would apply to an FAA designed examiner (there's a separate block for that too.
