Default Davis Monthan Tour Recs

I'm turning a plane into AMARG in a few weeks. We fly into DMA on a Saturday, sit around all day Sunday, then "hand over the keys" Monday.

Any recommendations on tours available on Sunday? I heard there's the official tour (4 hours?), then also a possibility of a quicker tour not available to the general public--maybe just a van drive through the yard?

Anyone with experience turning in a plane recall how long the process takes? Trying to time my comair home.

Thanks in advance!

If you have a car, the Pima Air Museum used to offer a combination ticket which also included the boneyard and the Titan Missile Museum several miles to the south.

Pima Air & Space Museum : Tucson, Arizona

Ask the AMARG duty guys if they have time to give you a custom tour?

Yep. This is the way to go. Great chance to see the place.

Kinda sad too.

Fond memories. Back in 1979 I delivered my units last F-100 to DM's AMARG. The jet must have known that it was doomed as it developed a utility system hydraulic leak on the last leg from Buckley to DMA. I shut it down on the parallel, unscrewed the stick grip, which I've still got, and the TA guys gave me a lift to the VOQ. Turned in the "keys" a little later and then enjoyed Tucson for a few days before the flight home. It used to be that one could spend time walking through the boneyard, climbing in and out of planes, all while being unescorted and unharassed.

I took some pictures of it a few years ago, it's a cool bone yard.
