Yep - I live in town with my Guard unit. . . . Don't plan on changing that until I retire.

No crew bases here though, so I know it'll suck in the beginning. I'm thinking an outfit like TSA that is growing right now will provide the opportunity to get off reserve and hold a line quicker (which helps QOL, right?), and looks like the commute could be just a 1 hop. Quicker time to TPIC should I not get a more lucrative call in the coming years is appealing too. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Where exactly do you live? That might affect which regional you decide to go with. But yes, pick one of the 4 that Rick mentioned with the best commute. I work at AWAC, and its a pretty decent QOL, but I live in base.

Can't you make more bumming in the Guard than a regional?

Probably. I'll still be working for the Guard pay. But I can't log 121 or jet time as a bum either. That's the only reason I haven't gotten an interview yet, as near as I can tell.

PSA is another to consider for the quick upgrade. You will also get off reserve fast at PSA. I was hired in mid-August, finished IOE mid-November and held a January line after six weeks on reserve.

I was at TSA but the commute was bad and getting worse. The bases for TSA right now are IAD, ORD and STL with DEN opening later this year. PSA has DAY (my base), CLT and TYS. Rumor has it ORD will be announced as a new crew base later this year.

After 15 years at Comair, and retiring from the NG during that time, things changed rapidly for my family and me. You stated there are no crew bases where your Guard unit is, but haven't said where that is. If you live 2-3 hours from a crew base, that's doable by car. I was based in DTW my last two years at Comair and if I couldn't get on a flight out of DAY, I could drive and frequently did. It was a 3:45 drive from my driveway to the DTW employee lot.

Good luck!

PM if you're interested in a 121 MD-11 job. We are hiring right now. I'm ex-military as well and I'm hanging out here until a Major calls. Pay is almost double as the regionals and it's all wide body international time.

Are the regional profiles up to date with regard to domiciles on the profile section? Looking at being east coast based.

PSA and TSA are accurate although I am not certain DEN is open yet for TSA. Rumor is ORD could be the next PSA crew base. Some F/As are saying they've been told DFW while going through their recurrent classes.
