Navy ACCP/Bonus
#12
I’ve heard a rumor about an increase as well, and I know other communities are doing very differently now than VFA is now. VFA pilots that I have seen are getting out and getting pilot jobs. I have not known a single guy to not screen for O-4 or DH (it took 2 tries for some of them). NFO’s on the other hand, screened for DH at about 30%, and I know a lot of other communities pilot DH screen rates are pretty low as well. However, because the bonus is a pilot bonus and not a community bonus, I would think that whichever communities are in the hurt locker the most would drive what they are giving out.
Maybe the Navy will get a 7 or 8 year bonus…this would get around the law about the 25k max.

IAs are going to be a year + training. So, your 30 month shore tour will include at least a year somewhere "over there." I wouldn't call it interesting times- I'd call it screwing the sailor times.

Yeah, talked to one of my boys today - he said that when you hand your bonus package to the skipper he hands you 380-day IA orders. Of course, he also said if you hand him (or her now) a resignation package they hand back 188 day IA orders.

Sorry to date myself but when I was looking to get out of the Navy back in
'86 the Navy's bonus was something like 15 to 20 grand for a 4 or 5 year bonus. Can't quite remember all the details. What I do remember was a lump sum option. However adding a $60,000 dollar pop on a LT salary and Uncle Sam taking HALF back in taxes the next year it worked out to be about a $200 dollar a month pay raise for the next 4 years.
Now if the govt wanted to offer the bonus TAX FREE that would be a different animal. But they didn't. So now I fly the rubber dog shi* out of Hong Kong. Jet dose'nt fly as fast and won't dog fight worth a dang but the pay is so much better..............

Sorta the same thought process I'm having. Hard though as the days get numbered to take the plunge out of the military world. $25K/year seems like peanuts compared to what I'd be making at the 10/11 year point in the Major Cargo industry. Food for thought. It will be interesting this year to see the folks in Millington scramble as more and more jump ship. I'm guessing alot of 1st year DH non screens will get the nod this year the 2nd time around IMHO.
Jet, the tomcat didn't fight too well either so your ahead no matter how you slice it right? Kidding. Fights on!

BDGER,
You can add up money and manipulate numbers to reinforce your decision as you see fit. There is the time added value of money (bonus), and there is potentially high pay flying large metal (FEDEX/UPS). The determing factor for me is family and QOL. I want my wife to live where she wants to live and I want control over my schedule. Good luck with your decision.

Couldn't agree with you more. Family and QOL are definitely the main factors in my decision to exit stage left. Money is money and while yes its nice, it isn't the be all/end all. Just more food for thought was all.

Re-kindling an old thread, funny how times change. Seems to me I'm hearing the Navy's ACCP bonus is drying up as of May 1st. Will be interesting to see how retention goes after that settles in, economy or no economy!
