Thumbs up ING Direct offering online checking, 3.93% rate

my favorite online high-yield savings bank, ING Direct, now offers a checking account product called "Electric Orange" that earns interest, has no minimum balance, and lets you get your cash from no-fee ATM's.

sigtauenus (whatever in the world is that??), if I use an ATM that is owned by my bank, I do not get charged a feel. Is that what you mean? If I go to Europe and use a Bankomat, I get charged about $2.00 per use.

For what it's worth, HSBC has their Direct Online Savings that is at 5.05% APY right now. It's not a checking account, but they do send you an ATM card. You can also just do bank-to-bank transfers for free, usually takes 3 business days though. It beats the heck out of my normal checking account's 0.5% interest compounded quarterly or some crap like that.

I have an orange savings account and love it. Hopefully big banking will pull their heads out of their asses and follow the example.
