Financial Aid
Hi all,
I am just about to start my instrument, followed by my commercial, and finally CFI ratings. I used a sallie mae loan for my private but ran out of money. I am looking for some other options for loans, preferably with a lower rate and a defferment. I live in southern california, more specifically, orange county. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on what options i have? Thanks for your help

I was in your shoes except I got to my instrument rating when I ran out of money. I ended up taking a year off from flying and worked my butt off saving up money for tuition and for flying lessons. SoCal is so expensive that it might take you forever to go that route. I did my training in Tennessee and it was much cheaper there. (Big bonus - southern girls are, in my view, prettier and smarter than most California girls) Man, I’m gonna get slammed for this one; Freightguppy – that doesn't apply to you, my scientific research revealed that you are NOT a true California grrrl!
Remember, many smaller flight schools will give you employee discount if you work there mowing grass, pumping fuel, etc. I ended up working at Domino's, at the local FBO and also at the local flight school. I had no social life whatsoever but a year or so later I was able to go back to school and finish my ratings AND my degree. Student loans might work if you really need it but you'll have to find a cheaper place to live and study. Just my worthless 2¢. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the advice, i will definetly take it into consideration. The only problem is that I am 20 years old and I am still working on my college degree. I wouldnt be able to take that much time off from school.
