Are there 70 year olds at NJ that can run rings around me? Probably. But a mandatory retirement age is an unfortunate but NECESSARY mechanism to get rid of the intellectually dishonest pilots who continue to lie to themselves and others that they can still do the job. Some CAN’T. We need to fix the screening processes... medical exams, sim checks, pro-standards and chief pilots are not doing the jobs they were designed to do. Fix that. Don't terminate capable pilots just because some XX (pick an arbitrary age) year old pilot has issues. When I was a young man, people judged certain others incompetent because of the color of their skin. It was a lot easier than judging them on their merits/demerits...but unjust. Yes. Picking some arbitrary age is easier. Let's pick 38. |

No. That is unjust to lump everyone together based on an arbitrary age.

What he's saying is that it shouldn't be arbitrary.
Like corrected 20/20 vision (arbitrary) Limits on blood pressure (arbitrary) flight time minimums for licensing and to be hired (double arbitrary) At least 23 to get an ATP (arbitrary) standards on checkrides (arbitrary) oooooh, but an age limit to increase safety is where we should draw the line. You have guys in the NJA Union leadership saying that nearly half of the over 65s are on medical leave. Doesn't sound very arbitrary. |

So your argument is that all the domestic 121 carriers have it wrong, and the fractionals/91/135 have it right?

That's always rubbed me the wrong way.
The 7 days on can be a grind, but I've never found it onerous. I know a percentage of NetJets guys think we work very hard, but I'm guessing they've never had some of the jobs I have where we worked 12 hours every day it didn't rain, made minimum wage and NEVER got 7 days off. |

What F’ING age ceases to be “arbitrary”? 65? 70? 103?
The existing mechanism to weed out the sick and the dying is totally inadequate so YES! We need a MANDATORY RETIREMENT AGE. Sorry if that hurts mooney. The truth usually does. |
