I’m only half kidding…. It seems like every captain at the legacies has a brother who flys a Gulfstream for a guy…. Naturally it seems like the 121 pilot, in their last year at the legacy, gets the G type and then moves on to fly the G at age 65…. I swear that’s what half the guys in the FBO tell me….

Actually, NetJets is so desperate for pilots they have started hiring retired airline pilots again. This was mentioned by the chair of UTC. Supposedly they are being picky who they chose as the first couple didn't make it through training. So go ahead and apply. You can only fly until 70, but the Arbitration case will decide if they can fire you or not. If the company loses the Arbitration case, you will get paid to sit at home as long as you hold your medical and pass training. Because of this, I believe they feel confident they will win in Arbitration.

Of course they will win. The company is following federal law granting them the ability to have an age 70 rule.

They get away with it because NetJets paid a lot of $$$ to lobbyist, and I mean a LOT in order to get the rule passed. Pax were not happy with great-grandpa up there in the left seat. NetJets couldn't set an age themselves without facing age discrimination lawsuits so they got the government to do it for them. And it was worded so it only applies to NetJets and I think FlexJet, but it's not mandatory to implement it. NetJets did and it takes effect in January 2024.

What about “age discrimination “? That’s why we FAs still flying in their 80’s!
The Major airlines can’t fire them for “age”, how does NetJets get away with it if it’s not an FAR?

How many pilots at NetJets are over 70 now, and 68-69 today who will be affected in 2024?

And if that’s a big number, with this pilot shortage, where is NJ going to get replacements if not for all the retiring 121 pilots?

It’s around 100 of us over 70, some already out on leave. That’s about 3% of the seniority list.

Not sure how many are 68-69.

Currently, they seem to favor hiring R-ATP pilots. Similar to what the regionals do… and to some degree the LCC’s…. Just like it’s been since the beginning of time…. No shortage of low time, fresh out of flight school pilots.

Considering how throttled back the FO hiring currently is at the regionals, they probably have tons of applications to choose from.

Age 64 and I got an interview at NJ this month. Passed for a better opportunity. I had a recommendation from an employee.

ETA: Retired Airline, currently GIV PIC 135.

And what’s a GIV type rating going for these days?
