Bird strike on departure caused an engine failure. The FADEC did it's job and the engine came back.
Crew was calm and professional on the radio.
I don't know if they still do this, but when we had to do a zero flap landing the CP authorized a free steak dinner 😋

That should’ve been in the contract…

Absolutely.

Is it an engine failure if the auto-relight works? I'm pretty impressed with this little engine if it can eat a bird, have a temporary power loss then get right back to business. Sully would have appreciated that.

Where exactly was the 'engine' strike? Sully's hit two large birds. One knocked out the VSV on one side. That engine kept relighting, accelerating....at which point it would stall because of the VSV's being broken, spin down, auto-relight and start the cycle all over again. The other bird took out a bunch of blades in the compressor section on the other engine. Engine could chug along at low idle (35%????), but had no chance of accelerating.

But does he have to submit it in an expense report with the $40 limit, an itemized receipt and no alcohol?

Yes, but this was when we had fleet chief pilots. Those no longer exist and is now handled by the Fleet Program Director. We only have 1 Chief Pilot and 1 ACP.
