An apparent airline pilot error has left a Silver Airlines plane stranded at a small airport in Fairmont Wednesday morning.

Marion County Airport Authority President Tom Mainella said that the pilot of a Saab 340 Turbo Prop airplane thought he was landing in Clarksburg, when he touched down at the Fairmont Municipal Airport-Frankman Field around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The twin engine airplane weighs 22,000 pounds while the runway is only rated for 12,500 pounds.

Mainella said the airline plans to lighten the plane by pulling out all the seats and perform a short field take off under cooler temperatures.

Plans are still underway for Silver Airlines to hold its inaugural flight at the North Central West Virginia Airport in Bridgeport Wednesday.

Are the navaids at CKB still OTS? For a while there the ILS was OTS due to construction on the runway.

Lol. This is funny.

Just spoke to the HR lady, there is one class late August and September. They might start calling next week.

Any July interviewers?

The late August class (4 BE1900 FOs and 16[I think] Saab FOs) is almost full. From what I was told, there's only 4 Saab FO positions left in that one.

Sort of funny

It is sort of funny but it is easier to learn from some other pilots mistake than my own. I remember a NWA that landed at Ellsworth AFB instead of Rapid City. A USAF T-38 that landed somewhere by Houston and they had to truck it out.
Big lesson for me is how can these things continue to happen?

This will be interesting watching the bricks fly though.

Forgive my non-military self...I had no idea you could get a military fighter into a field you couldn't get it out of.

WoW, you might want to look at the performance numbers for your currently aircraft, I guarantee you that your landing distance is shorter than your take off distance. There are a lot of airports where we could get an airplane into but unable to fly it off.
