Ameriflight Signs Gateway Program Agreement with UPS Airlines -

Ameriflight and UPS Airlines have entered into The UPS/Ameriflight Gateway Program to create opportunities for flight crew personnel for both airlines. The collaboration is intended to offer outlined paths under which UPS Airlines' Intern Program participants can gain Part 135 flying experience at Ameriflight and accumulate the flight experience needed to proceed to UPS Airlines, a Part 121 certificated air carrier.

Under the program, UPS will actively mentor participating Ameriflight pilots. These pilots will be encouraged to participate in UPS functions and learn from UPS Airlines' flight-qualified management team and Chief Pilots.

The Gateway Program is open to individuals who have successfully completed the UPS Airlines' Intern Program and have been identified by UPS as eligible for the UPS/Ameriflight Gateway Program. The agreement affords the opportunity for UPS interns to potentially qualify for employment with Ameriflight and UPS Airlines, respectively, upon completion of outlined experience and training requirements. Ameriflight and UPS may offer employment to eligible pilots subject to their hiring needs, hiring standards and the program requirements.

I was told by management that the first couple of UPS interns are in training with Ameriflight now. The way its worded makes its sound like its only an option for new people that start out as UPS interns first, then are funneled to Ameriflight to build time, then back to UPS.So what does this do for the current group of pilots who have been hauling UPS on small feeders for years? Great way to **** off your current group of pilots if this isn't available to them.

Its a smart move for both companies.

UPS vets young college students/grads as interns, then they go to Ameriflight where they build flight experience and provide Ameriflight with pilots while providing UPS with staffing for their contracted feeder lift, then after gaining _____ experience at AMF they can come back to UPS.

I don't think any feeder pilots have been hired since UPS started hiring in 2014. That is too bad because they are flying UPS volume in and out of UPS facilities; they know the job, they know the company.

It'd be great to see experienced AMF, ACC, etc. pilots get serious consideration in the hiring process, and perhaps this initial program with former UPS interns will move things toward that.

Imagine the grizzled AMF lifer having a UPS intern as his copilot. What a great CRM experiment that will be!

The lifer Captain complains that he can't get on with the likes of Allegiant, Spirit, Omni or other bottom feeding LCC's or even a regional. All the while the UPS intern talks about how they'll be flying heavy widebodies this time next year and the year after that, they'll be pushing $200K in pay!

What is a pilot going to intern?

Current and former interns work in Flight Training, CP Office, Safety, etc.

Projects include but are not limited to EFK support, graphic design for fleet AQP presentations, assisting ground/flight instructors, etc.

And becoming instant NURPs upon graduation. Your institution of higher learning is notorious for that.

Not a flow

Heard something similar was going on at other select feeders as well. Might be UPS attempting to attract feeder pilots to fly their freight so the feeders don't dry up. Besides it's been said over and over they have no interest in single pilot ops. They prefer multi crew jet time. Sorry UPS too little too late.

So....even when things get better....few people can just say SOMETHING GOOD JUST HAPPENED.
