In 3.5 yrs I’ve never been pushed to do anything that I wasn’t comfortable doing, but I’ve never just said no either. Usually it’s, “I can’t do that, but I can do this.”
If you are overworked the the point of exhaustion, bang out fatigued. No extra paperwork (unless you want do it to help the other guys in your situation), and you won’t hear anything else. They may ask you the circumstances, so they can avoid it in the future. If you don’t say anything, they don’t know. They’re gonna try to utilize the aircraft as much as possible.

Exactly!! Well put!

That’s been my experience after 2 years here.

Regional CA here, just applied today on recommendation from someone that was at WU a couple years back. After reading the thread, (thanks for all the great info), seems like opinions about the company and operation are about 99% positive with only 2 "bad" posts. Guess I'll be studying up on the 135 regs, but wanted to ask about storage:

It’s more than adequate for how I pack, which is more than adequate for an 8 day tour. A lot of guys bring a backpack or briefcase too, but it takes up more room so the least amount you have the easier it is.
As far as checking a bag, if you are in uniform they probably won’t make you do it. However, I like to travel home in civies and I never check a bag. As far as going to work, the only time I check is on a regional where you have to gate check and get it back on the jetway upon deplaning. I don’t like the prospect of having to go without my bag on tour.

I've got the shorter one so that should be a non-issue. Also carry a backpack with food etc in it - how's the room up front? Is there some area a backpack could ride without impinging on the operating space?

Thank you for addressing the heat issue concerning the King Air, Texas, South Florida in the summer is really brutal. There is just no way of cooling down this airplane. Makes a long day even a longer day when you start your day sweating like you just came out of a sauna!!!

Sounds like the CRJ200...except that apparently in the King Air the A/C actually works once you have the engines turning.

Lastly - any additional training for the international (read that: Caribbean) operations, or is it included in the normal training footprint?

Appreciate any feedback --

No room up front for a bag. MAYBE some room in the baggage area in the back. But not always. You get your international training on the line for the most part. It’s not much different operationally than the airlines. All done for us except verifying the documents. Only difference is using CANPASS for Canada.

Hiring Questions

New to the Forum but I have read most of the Wheels Up / Gama posts back to 2015 so have most of my questions answered. I've instructed and flown corporate since the late 80's and flew the 350 (Proline 21) for several years. I love the airplane. I lost my full time 350 job but I've continued to fly contract with a full time "desk" job to pay the bills. I'm considering leaving the desk job to fly full time again and am interested in Wheels Up. I am current and have a clean type rating with over 1600 hrs in the 350. ATP with Approx 4,900 TT, 4,100 Multi, 3,000 Turbine all part 91. Here are my questions:

1. How are things going now after the TMC merger?
2. Are they still hiring direct entry captains? If not, how quick is the upgrade?
3. I have not flown Proline 21 (except a little right seat sic) for several years. If hired would I get full initial training or just a recurrent?
4. I know the answer to this question is NO at several places but is facial hair allowed? Beard, mustache?
5. Would they consider KTYS as a base? This is probably a deal breaker for me. I know Delta, United, American and a few others have regular service there.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

1. Unchanged as far as we’re concerned so far.
2. Yes.
3. It’ll most likely be recurrent.
4. Well-groomed mustache only.
5. They might, only the powers that be can answer that question.

Just a heads up to all current gama employees, please keep tabs on your pay once you put your 2 weeks notice in. I was completely screwed over recently and have had multiple other co workers/friends have the same experience.
