Been quiet in this thread for a while. I know JSX has gone the way of many other operators in not doing much hiring but has the outlook changed much at all? Any news for growth/hiring? Asking for a friend who’s one of many CFIs looking for the next step

There is also a new rule for First Officers to accumulate 1,000 hours in the right seat before they are eligible for upgrade. Someone working hard at gathering more flying on their schedule can complete this in the better part of 2 years. Then you need multiple captain letters of recommendation to be eligible for upgrade. Then another job interview to get a panel of chiefs who you may not have ever flown with to assess if you are captain material. If you pass, you go to the back of the line for upgrades in your base. If you fail, you need to wait months and gather new letters of recommendation to start the process over again. After all that time, we currently have FOs that meet the requirements… but no need for additional captains, so they continue to sit in the right seat at the FO pay scale. If someone has over 1,000 total time and wants to apply, instead you should keep instructing, pipeline flying, or whatever you are doing for your time building job until you are at 1500 and go to a regional and build 121 time with a much better paycheck. The previous strategy of getting on at JSX, upgrading moments after 1500 TT and logging TPIC is long gone. Hate to paint the rough picture, but many FOs here that have the position everyone outside is dreaming about are looking to move elsewhere for better quality of life and pay. The PIC time and the decent captain check is worth it if you can get to that spot, but the goal line for captain upgrade keeps moving further away for our FOs. There is no guarantee that the current criteria won’t become additionally difficult to upgrade. If your goal is to fly a cool hands on jet with fun crews, keep pushing to get on. If you’re trying to advance your career and make a decent paycheck, get to 1500 and fly for a regional. |

No Captain upgrades and no FO hiring will even be considered until at least August. The best bet to get hired at JSX is to be retired 121 with direct entry captain qualifications. As a low time pilot today, you MUST have an internal recommendation. There are too many applications to sort through and the company will speak with referrals on application.

Thanks for the update, I’ll pass the info along. is that 1,000 hours in the right seat requirement a new 135 rule? Or just a company set minimum? |

is that 1,000 hours in the right seat requirement a new 135 rule? Or just a company set minimum? The 1,000 hour in type rule is a JSX policy. It’s pushed back a lot of upgrades that were ready a while ago. On top of that, the pilots sitting around waiting for upgrade were hired before that policy was put in place. Nothing more effective to take the wind out of one’s sails than to move the finish line further away. |
The company website currently indicates openings for ATR captain positions in Las Vegas.

ATR FO hiring
For those in the know:
Will JSX plan on hring external FOs for the ATR (ex Silver Airways peeps) or will the rigt seat be filled with the existing cadre? As far as the ATR Captain role posted on the website, what are the typical profile JSX is looking for? (type rated or not, etc.) thank you for all who will answer. |
JSX BASES
For anyone: Any plans on JSX adding bases? Specifically, DEN/APA. Also, is a type rating required for Direct Entry Captain? Retired 121 with 3 years 135 experience. Thanks!

Dog transport request KBUR-KAPA
Are there any crew members commuting from KBUR-KAPA this week who would be willing to supervise a 6-month old 40lb golden retriever? I am rescuing her from a shelter and trying to avoid 121 airlines. I would purchase a seat for her. Any serious suggestions or recommendations welcomed.

https://www.pilotsnpaws.org I'm on a trip so can't do this one, but I've done dozens of them. |
ATRs
Any word if the ATR payscales will be the same? Only Cali bases? The APC company page is way out of date...
