I won’t argue with you about this but let’s just say you might be under estimating the volume of crews sitting around an airport as (region) back up”Airport Stanby”. If your lucky and on a tail with good amount of flying your safe. Get a tail with no assigned trips 10 hrs airport appreciation.

In 18 months at Tradewind Aviation I’ve been assigned Standby @ FBO one time and that was an accident. If we’re on an overnight trip and the flight doesn’t depart until the afternoon, we’ll be standby @ hotel (so on duty) until we have to check out, then we’ll grab lunch or catering, then head to the airport. If the departure is very late the following night I have on a couple occasions been given a hotel for two nights just so we didn’t have to check out and sit at the FBO for 8+ hours.

At Travel Management, if you don’t have flights, you hang at hotel. The exception is you fly some people in for a meeting or whatever, wait around 5 hrs, then fly them back. Usually in this situation, ops will tell you to grab a crew car and have lunch on the company card. Sometimes if the other guy is fun, we’ll go to a museum or driving range or something.

This is a good question to ask. A certain 91k/135 operator in the midwest makes their crews sit at the FBO 8 hours a day, every day they don't fly. Supposed to be off the ground in 30 minutes for pop ups or something ridiculous.

It’s good to see that the pilot recruiters are still in the house!
