I'm a King Air Captain and I've experienced the famous ACK fog. It is amazing to pilots who has never experienced that kind of sea fog. I arrived an hour before our scheduled departure on a beautiful evening, with not a cloud in the sky. Then within the hour, this strange mist began to move in. Before you know it, you couldn't even see the next plane beside you parked on the ramp. I've never experienced that before. It was something.

Junior Bases

Anybody know if the Caribbean is Senior or Junior? How about Florida?

Thanks

FL has very high seniority. No growth there. Fully staffed. I wouldn't expect to ever be able to hold FL if you were hired today.

The seasonality means the Carib is junior in winter and senior in summer. There was one unfilled line in STX on the latest bid, so I guess you could say it is more junior.

The EAS routes out of ALB, PLB, SLK, & RUT will probably be available to junior pilots in the fall/winter this year. Otherwise its a move to the Carib. HYA & BOS will only have enough flying for a very few senior pilots.

Any idea how long it typically takes to get a response after sending in the application, for those who may have interviewed recently? I imagine they're pretty busy, just curious what experience others have had...

I'm flying out of ack this summer and I can def. agree to that. There's been flights when I've taken off with sky clear and come back within an hour and its ovc001. Awesome IFR flying though. go sox

Update: Pulling out of Indiana

From Cape Air's internal website:

"Indiana Officials Make Final Decision on Cape Air Service

Evansville is joining South Bend and opting not to renew the current subsidy. Without a guaranteed revenue stream in place for these routes it is not fiscally prudent to continue the Indiana service. Therefore, effective September 01, 2008 our Indiana service will terminate, aircraft will shift to the increasingly busy routes in the Caribbean and all Indiana Cape Air employees will be offered positions in other regions of the company.

We thank the entire Indiana crew for all of their efforts.
Cape Air is continuing in a growth mode with several new subsidized routes in upstate New York, ready to launch in the fall. These are two year commitments, that we expect to do quite well."

If they are single pilot, how does the first officer position work with the 402s?

robthree 07-26-2008 08:55 PM

CanaDAN,

Discussed in depth at:

http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/pa...ape-air-3.html

To summarize, 2 pilots are required for pax hauling under IFR.

An autopilot may be substituted for the SIC.

Are they still putting guys who are close to 1500TT in the mail plane? I'll be at a bit over 1400TT if I were to get the job. Not sure if they'd put me in the right seat for a month or what they'd do. Thanks!

robthree 07-28-2008 03:57 PM

NIP,

Yeah, with 1400ish I'd guess they'd just put you in a SIC seat for the last hundred, unless there was some requirement you were missing that you could only meet flying the mail. On the other hand, they'll probably use you how & where ever they have the greatest need when you come online.
