Had the skype interview with them today, pretty easy stuff, very nice guys. Has anyone tried to commute while flying with them?

Not trying to be discouraging, but that is a nasty drive in the middle of a snowstorm! Something to keep in mind. The drive will get old fast enough then throw in winter driving.

Oh trust me, I know all about winter driving. I have lived in Bismarck for almost eight years. Not a particularly fun idea to drive to and from BIL on a regular basis. But, considering I'm still 250 hours away, anything can and will happen by then.

Just figured I'd start looking.

I suppose it depends on what your commute looks like. Back when I flew for them (not long ago), the schedules involved very long days that start early and end late. If you were commuting daily that'd be difficult. If you were commuting on the front and back of a four day duty period that'd be more manageable, but then you have to think about the cost of a crashpad and parking in addition to any other expenses you already have. The pay doesn't give you much to work with.

Question

Hey Guys,

One quick question. Do you start making $ 11.00 hour as an FO at C'Air ? How much do you fly ? How about QOL ? Do you have to sign a 30K contract training to fly a 402 ?

Thanks

They do make you sign a 30k contract for the 402.

I am also curious to hear what some current or recent cape air pilots have to say about, hours flown a month, QOL and what some of the more junior FO bases are.

When I was there, we had no contract. Yeah you start at that but it's duty hour not block. Still pretty bad but whatever. As for QOL, for me it was a 4 on 4 off which was great. They used to bump FOs all the time and I was doing like 30-40 hours a month but after that, 80+ was very easy to do.

Jeez 4on4off sounds awesome

Yes there's a 30K contract for all new hires. QOL is not bad. For First officers its typically 4 on 4 off. Captains is 4 on 3 off. You can expect 70-100 hours a month depending where you are based. You will rarely get bumped off a flight. First officer pay is not great at $11 an hour, but keep in mind they are hiring you with the intent of becoming a captain for them. As a means of building flight time outside of instructing, its great experience and you get full flight benefits with CASS. You will make a lot of money as a captain or even as a PIC with the incentive program. I would not recommend coming here if you have the intent to leave at 1500 as the clock for the 1 year 30k contract does not start until you complete your ATP.

Like any job, its what you make of it. I find the community from the workers, ramp agents, and fellow pilots make it a fun place to work. It's a unique job.

For a first officer? About 25k.
