Job interview with Seaport Airlines

Hey there my name is William and I'm from Memphis, TN. I have a job interview for Seaport Airlines this coming monday 8/21/2009. This company is a Scheduled part 135 flying Pilatus PC-12. This is my 1st real interview outside of flight instructing and I was wondering what to expect. The only thing the guy told me was to brush up on my regulations and my system. My only clue was he was talking about Part 91 and the systems of the planes I'm currently flying. Does anything think they are going to want me to whip out a PC-12 AFM or answer tough 135 reg questions? Let me know thanks!

I'm not sure since I don't work for seaport but based off of previous interview with eagle and a few other regionals know the regs under which the company fly as well as the ones you fly under. Your flight instructing so they will expect most of your knowledge to be part 91 however know at least the duty times under 135. Sorry I'm not much help but if you need 135 questions answered I'll try my best to help however ask OZPILOT he works for seaport for more indept answers. Good luck my friend.

I don't know - - but I hope you mistyped the date or else you missed your interview! ;)
I hope that you'll come back after the interview and share what you learned.

Oh yea its 8/31/2009 sorry and thanks! I've been looking up at the 135 stuff a little and I, for the 1st time, noticed that for IFR 135 pax carrying... you have to have an SIC on board (FAR 135.101). B/c I realize the PC-12 is single pilot certified and you don't even have to get typed, just simcom or flightsafety. I'm getting nervous about it, but I know I should. I'm really good at interviewing becuase I'm honest and know my stuff; this is just the first real airline interview! They said I will be in a PC-12 sim for the eval flight, so I hope it's not too tough to fly.

You'll be fine just it takes 60 minutes to fly an hour no matter what size the aircraft! Your motivated you'll probably outshine the rest of your colleages just relax and have fun!

Yeah - I know what you mean. I hate the thought of doing a flight check in an aircraft that I have never even sat in! The PC-12 is a pretty neat aircraft though I'll bet. Looks good in any case.

Did you read through the SeaPort thread already? Lots of info and there is a post about what to expect for the interview.

Jowersman 08-26-2009 06:33 PM

Yea I'm just crazy about aviation and I just want to get out of flight instructing so bad. It gets old having a wierd, messed up schedule all the time. I'm ready for a set schedule and flying a lot! And I have excellent instrument and communication skills so I know that'll be a plus. My ultimate goal in life is to fly an A340-600 doing overseas operations. I will even move far away for that chance :):)

Congratulations on your first airline interview. Good luck. Just try not to be weird, be middle of the road, yourself, and you'll get it for sure.

Jowersman 08-26-2009 06:47 PM

How will this look when I want to move to an airline that will glace at my multi time? B/c I know I'm only getting single engine turbine. I know the fact that it's Part 135 and turbine will be great... but I'm curious how the multi part will play in the future.

It won't matter as long as you meet their mins. You're going to have to get current though.

Joecool3 08-26-2009 07:31 PM

Dude just focus on passing the interview and leave the worrying of multi time, single time for another day:) Good luck!

Jowersman 08-26-2009 07:35 PM

Thanks! FYI understanding these duty times suck... I hate lawyers, lol

FlyingPirate 08-26-2009 07:48 PM

Jowersman,

If you haven't flown 135 I wouldn't worry about knowing the regs. Most places don't expect you to know the regs that you haven't flown under. If you only have 91 instructing experience then know 91 regs very well. However, you should know the AIM like the back of your hand no matter what part you fly under.

I'm interviewing this weekend. It seems like most guys for the FO spots are low-time. I have almost 1900TT 1860PIC and 135 experience, I was hoping for a CA position but I don't have any turbine. Not sure if I'm going to take it if offered the job, interview experience is good though and I should be fresh since I did my recurrent checkride last Sat.

Good luck!

No offense, but if you want out of flight instructing "so badly" you might not be as crazy about aviation as you think.

Not intended to be a slam, just an observation.

Not true, I am also among those who absolutely love aviation and flying but HATE teaching. I still play Microsoft Flight Sim sometimes when I get bored. Not an aviation geek, just genuinely love airplanes. Just don't ask me to teach them to you...

skybob 08-27-2009 05:36 AM

Has Seaport closed its hiring window? I live in MEM and have about 4000 hours and am looking for a job. Any info would be greatly appreciated.........

Jowersman 08-27-2009 06:15 AM

I honestly have no idea if they are going to take any more interviews, but it's worth a shot to apply. They did have a link up on Climbto350.com, but that has been about a week or more. And to come back at that; if I don't like instructing it doesn't mean I don't love to fly... I've just been doing this for over 2 years and I'm ready for something that will get me to my ultimate goal quicker.

HungryPilot 08-27-2009 01:52 PM

I can understand being done with the CFI thing. Most of us have been there before but I tell you what. I really miss it sometimes. It's just nice to be able to go where you want to go and stop in for a touch and go when you fly past another airport. It gets boring flying to the same places all the time. But that's neither here nor there. You guys that interviewed already, how did it go?

paraglidingbum 08-27-2009 02:26 PM

I'm a captain for Seaport up here in PDX and I will be moving to MEM here in a month or so. It's gonna be a long drive out there....

As for the interview, if you don't have any 135 experience, they don't expect you to have knowledge of the regs. I would highly recommend looking them over though. Expect to be asked questions about the current rules you operate under and your aircraft. You will be able to learn 135 regs and Seaport specific stuff in ground school, they are just trying to see that you know your airplane and get an overall picture of you as a person. You will get the standard scenario based questions like having a nav light out on christmas eve blah blah blah. They want to see you make a decision and back it up. I was able to sit in on a few of the interviews for the last class and they did ask a few questions that caught some people off guard, such as "Who is the one person that you admire the most?"

I'm not sure how much this post helps, but feel free to ask me more specific questions. Be confident, honest and be yourself. Good luck guys/gals!

Jowersman 08-27-2009 04:15 PM

That a lot paraglidingbum! I'm sure I will be fine for the interview. I'm always honest and upfront with them; sure I'm gonna be nervous, but who isn't? I've been reading over the current Part 91 FARs and looking at basic 135 regs including duty times, etc. I know a little about the pilatus PT-6A, 1200shp engine, lol! But I'm very up to date on the secenca I've been flying.

No offense Mrs. / Mr. but if you worked for us you would have the company phonelist or at least Cullen and Robs numbers since they interview everyone who works here!

That is why I don't work for Seaport...I applied but have not heard anything yet. The reason I need his number is because in order to collect unemployment I have to keep a log of the people I send resumes too which includes email, address and phone number. I have the first 2 but am missing the phone number for the company.

papacharlie 11-03-2009 02:43 PM

Couldn't have said it better!

I don't think we're going to hire any more captains in the future nor do we have any plans to hire in the near future however based on my class the mins for FO's will be around 1100tt and upwards. There will be expansion in the future as there are plans to eventually grow however it takes time. Best of luck!

Actually I was just talking to the owner about two weeks ago about that, he flys our planes out of DeWitt Spain. Right now they may not be taking the apps yet, but next year they have plans to pick up at least 10 pilots with a hopes of 25.

flysooner9 11-20-2010 10:12 PM

they just hired one of my co-workers as an FO

spruce21 12-02-2010 11:08 PM
